Bananas don't ripen in the oven, by the way. Two main reasons the bread gets darker, baking soda is mostly responsible for that. Put more in and it'll turn A LOT darker. Why? Because science! Buuuut... it'll burn quickly, too. The other reason? Caramelization of sugars (that's where the baking soda helps, well, it's mostly for leavening, it just does other things too.). I'll take baking and baking talk over "Rick and Morty" any day. Not to say I don't like Rick and Morty, I just like food better.XD

@lamby I'm not saying that it isn't a joke but I'm saying that the way you spelled it which made may part of the joke is also the way that black culture has also been known to spell the name crystal aka Krystal (pronounced Crystaal).

Ripen? No. Broke down sugars and artificially sped up the release of said sugars? Yup. I've never put bananas in the oven, I just wait until they're soft and the peel starts to get black (Not rotten, overly ripe. They get very sweet.). I'm sure yours was good and I may have to try heating the bananas up in the oven, next time. As for the baking soda, it's the usual leavening agent in banana bread.
