At Fanime, I was surprised to see someone standing on a box at a street intersection and yelling out to all us cosplayers that we would all suffer eternal hellfire unless we accepted Jesus as our savior. ... soooo, his logic was if you dress in cosplay, that automatically makes you anti christian.... he got up that morning, ate his cereal and brushed his teeth, the wore that green jesus shirt, and made sure he grabbed his soap box and took the bus to a place that he had scouted beforehand to yell at people who are there to have fun with their hobbies. Kinda weird. Anyone else have thoughts or simular experiences?

Maybe that person is the black sheep in the Christian community, trying desperately gain his fellow Christian's acceptance, by trying to convert people though the power of yelling at them...Its just a guess :P

Maybe we should eat our cereal, put on our Ash Ketchum hats and naruto headbands, locate the nearest church, or possibley find him, pack our boxes and then.... Well i haven't had any of those people at any conventions i have attended. He probably didn't wan't to put cosplayers on the spot. I think he just wanted the convention in general. Maybe a toll?

Well I myself am a christian and I love anime, so that guy was just obviously just not cool.

What got me was that there seemed to be an organized effort behind it. About halfway through the day a different guy in that same shirt would be standing on that box yelling the same things. I really just ignored it, but couldn't help feeling like the guy was an idiot for telling non-Christians AND Christians that dressed up that they were going to hell.
To your costumes and bentos, troops!

My logic concerning anime and religion is thus, good art can be a religious experince, Good anime is art, so that makes good anime a religious experince. I can't count the number of times I've watched something like kodomo no jikan or seikon no qwaser and thought I needed to go to church more.

Thing is, for a lot of conventions there is gonna be some people up on their soap boxes yelling at the cosplayers. It happens pretty much each year over at Kumoricon. No matter what big town you go to for a con, I think there are going to be people like that. They just do it in the biggest event areas at the time, rather than really specifically going after cosplayers... It just is annoying that bible thumpers tend to give religion a bad face in the eyes of con-goers. :/ There are plenty of level headed religious people who go to cons, but it only takes a few obsessers to really ruin it.

I think it is a shame nothing is sacred anymore. Is it really to the point where doing what you love if that is cosplay is wrong.I mean there are way way worse things out there for him to save.Instead of wasting his time doing that maybe he can help out at a homeless shelter to people who need hope.Fucking disgusting is what that is.
