I think this is the part where we talk about how we got into anime and what our favorites are and what brought us to the web site, et al.
Here's the problem: I've been watching anime for well over 20 years, so those first two topics are--how to put it?--potentially lengthy, and I'm prone to walls of text as it is. (That's a nice way of saying I'm old and wordy.)
So let's start with the third. I came here because my last few relationships--one of which went for a little over ten years--have clarified a great deal about what I need out of a long-term relationship. And among the things I need are to be with someone who loves anime and can geek out about languages, particularly Japanese. I speak and read/write the language at an intermediate level, although not as well as I did 12 years ago.
That ten-year relationship I mentioned? Person wasn't particularly into anime. She didn't dislike it, but it wasn't really her thing either. For most of that relationship I put anime fandom on hiatus because I couldn't really share it with her, and moved on to other things. That was a mistake.
My interest was reawakened this last fall by Sword Art Online. I spent a number of years in a raiding guild in EQ2 and am a longtime gamer, so I really clicked hard with that show, and in the past year have turned out somewhere around 300,000 words of fanfic related to it. Since then I've been reconnecting with the fandom and catching up on all the amazing shows I missed between 2002 and 2012. Speaking as someone who got started with VHS fansubs in the early 90's, we're in a golden age of anime. ^^
I made it to SakuraCon this year (local for me), have been considering driving down to KumoriCon in Portland, and once my life settles down a bit I would really like to start working on costuming and cosplay--and getting to more cons if I can afford it.
Anyway, as I suggested that's far from being all, but this will suffice for now.
