Acceptance???

How do your loved ones feel about you being an otaku??? Hate it? Love it? Tolerate it? As a child, I drew millions of pictures of Mulan, watched countless Kung Fu movies with my dad and never failed to turn on Yu gi OH or Pokemon after school. But now my scenery has changed and I have new Guardians who feel that I'm rather odd for watching "Chinese cartoons". They don't understand why I listen to music in Japanese and hate that I read Manga when I could read "real books". I can't be the only one who is mocked

Oh you aren't the only one. My older brother belittled me for wanting to cosplay, whereas my oldest brother criticize me for drawing anime style rather than realism, not to mention in High School I was belittled for being Black and into Anime, Japanese Video games etc. It's pretty much everywhere, ppl are unable to understand the different culture and what makes us like it, so as a result we likely never get along with"Normals" My cousins always wail on me for liking Video Game and Anime Soundtracks, it's really nauseating dealing with this everywhere I go and every person I talk to. I wish there was a place on earth exclusive for Otakus. Being an Otaku is tough /_\

Honestly, I've spent most of my years as a gamer/anime fan as an adult since I didn't really get into it until I was 16. My mom more or less looked at it as just another hobby I had and my brother thought I was a dork regardless of what I did. Now I'm just their son/sibling who plays video games too much! :p

I'm still in the closet. My parents think they are just adult swim shows. ( I watch it in my room and they dont come in very often)Haha, I don't list to jpop or kpop. I only have 5 manga books. They are Rurouni Kenshin 1-5, hidden so they won't ever find them. My dad would definetly think it was weird and my mom would think it was some porn fetish. If she watched a full episode of elfin lied or something like that.

My family is pretty much indifferent. I'm already a witch, anything else pales in comparison to adjusting to that. lol

Wait so you're like Sabrina the teenage witch??? That's so cool!!

My family either just accepts it and helps me with my fandom or just talks bad about it. I basically got my siblings interested in all the otaku-dom when I started back in middle school and they all try their best to draw and get into cosplaying etc. My aunt helped me go to several conventions and has bought me manga before, even checks some of my posts to Facebook such as Vocaloid vids. My dad just complains about my two bookcases of manga, collection of games, etc. Really depends on the family mindset.
