The Case Study of Vanitas. A very fun show, however the manga is on hiatus I believe so it only has 2 seasons.

Aired: Spring 2009

The main character gets abducted and brain washed into being an Assassin, and forced to work along side the female lead as an assassin duo. It has an action packed plot, with a pretty dark story.

@a_wesley_g I liked Requiem for the Phantom more than Phantom the Animation.

Aria the Animation
https://myanimelist.net/images/anime/2/77620.jpg
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Aired: Fall 2005
Genre: Slice of Life, Iyashikei, Feel good slow life
I feel a need to throw this one out there, but it's definitely not for everyone. Still they did a really good job with the feel good, slow life, heartwarming story that was soothing and relaxing. Think cute girls rowing gondolas in Venice Italy, and that's pretty much the setting of the story. It did well enough to go on for 6 seasons.
If you've seen "Amanchu!", then it very much has the same feel. As they both have the same Original Creator, and Producer. But that one is 10 years old itself.

It was so long ago that I've seen some of these old anime I'm looking through, I've forgotten the plots. I just remember that I liked them. I guess that makes them more interesting to re-watch... But maybe I should be scared at just how much I've forgotten... Had to go back and binge watch of few of them.

Michiko to Hatchin
https://myanimelist.net/images/anime/6/59537.jpg
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Aired: Fall 2008
Genres: Action, Adventure, Crime, Gangs, Child Protagonist
This was really a weird, twisted, and interesting story. Truly original compared to the cookie cutter stuff we get now days. And a throw back to an older art style. Michiko is a fiery fearless convict who just escaped from prison. And Hatchin is the orphan daughter of her former boyfriend/lover. Michiko kidnaps.. I mean "saves" Hatchin from her awful foster family, and they go on a grand adventure through a 3rd world country, looking for her maybe not dead dad, while fighting crime bosses and the cops along the way. Definitely not a family friendly anime.

Ascendance of a Bookworm
(Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen)
https://myanimelist.net/images/anime/1582/101697.jpg
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Aired: Fall 2019
Genres: Drama, Isekai, Reincarnation, Fantasy, Medieval
Jumping the line, this one isn't as old as the others. However, it was a truly unique and original story with lovable characters that really draw you in and get you emotionally invested. The plot starts a little slow, but by the 2nd season it'll have you completely pulled in. If you like stories that tug on your heart strings. This one will do it. I highly recommend it.

I mentioned this a year before, but "Snack Basue" is a hilarious comedy on par with "The Disastrous Life of Saki K."

I watched an old anime called Akagi on a whim and enjoyed the series for its twists on an organization of gamblers all cheating to win at games of chance.

The show does enough to inform the viewer of the base rules of Mahjong before revealing how each character is exploiting the game or tricking the other players into revealing their own cheating methods openly.

Later on the game turns into a life or death match after money is decidedly not enough of a high stakes risk and so literal blood is wagered instead.
