Political rants

It's very easy to bash politicians for every issues in the Modern society. maybe rightfully so, they often lack the foresight to analyze the problem and sometimes make decisions that only worsen things in the long-run. However I find it mildly amusing that a lot of people who comments on political issues also doesn't seem to have slightest idea how complex the problem in reality is. But they arrogantly sounds like they do know the answer.

@ffdreamer I don't think anyone claims to know the answer. Political topics need a melting pot of ideas and discussion to approach a correct answer. You could be assuming that someone stating their opinion is also claiming it to be the answer instead of offering their idea. I'd also disagree and say that most people do realize how complex problems are, but it's also true that sometimes the most obvious answer is the best answer. Throw in agendas, which a lot of modern politicians do, and you have complex problems that are being given even more complex/radical solutions. We should also hold our politicians accountable. The problems might be complex, but their job is to help solve these problems, and if it's too complex for them, then why are they in the profession? Would you bash your mechanic for your transmission failing a week after you've had it repaired? Would you offer to pay for the repair again, or would you want the mechanic to repair it again at no extra cost? A mechanic's job can be complex as well. They are two different jobs, and maybe it's comparing apples to oranges, in a way, but I don't think everyday people should remain quiet because the issues are complex. I certainly wouldn't tell my mechanic 'I'll pay again, I understand how complex a transmission is'.

Sometimes comparing women to Ms Piggy is an insult to Ms Piggy, but decided to share because of the "news" of it and Malice being on the muppet train as well after the last few pages of convo here. lol

The best things to come out of a discussion is having your mind change, but I personally think it's no longer the case today. Everyone just wants to bring their point across and defend their ideology to the end, no matter how wrong they are proven. It's far more important to them to look good and maintain their Ego rather than really find the solution. You said that the most people do realize the complexity of big issues, but I beg to differ. Every time something happen, when I look up to varies media (TV, Newspaper, YouTube, Twitter), all I can see is people complaining, oversimplify the subject and give laughable easy answers. Something like "Tax the rich, help the poor", "just change to renewable energy, to fix global warming" or better yet, they take one group to blame everything on them, call them ugly names like racist or sexist and don't give any answer at all ! You don't have to look for those people, they are everywhere. Left, Right, Center, it doesn't matter. I would even argue some "commentators" isn't even interested in a political debate. They just want to take some sort of pseudo moralistic stance on big scale issues to look good to their friends and families.

@ffdreamer I can agree with pretty much all of this. I don't think, however that twitter, youtube, or MSM should be a good source to look at how your every day average person understands the subject. I agree that there are radical views more frequently on social media, and it's pretty stupid, but for the most part when I have a political conversation with someone in person, even those I don't necessarily agree with, they have tried to see if from my perspective too. There are also those people that treat real life like social media and defend their flawed ideologies like you're depicting, but I tend to keep away from those people. I'm also not going to say that I don't defend my ideologies either. To this day I will defend the idea that the entire government is a problem (rarely are there good apples). I'll also defend the idea of using common sense when it comes to policy, and also the idea of both sides of the political spectrum needing to work together instead of against each other, but I can't know that these ideologies are either wrong or right. As for looking good publicly, I think that definitely plays a major part in the political landscape today, especially with social media. Writing about how Kenosha should burn to the ground if Rittenhouse is acquitted is like showing your gang you represent their colors. As a society, we're all so focused on the wrong things, it's fucked right now. We all want to be important, we all want to feel like our words matter, and we have the tools to put our words out there for the public to see. We have the tools to be radical and make psychotic statements. A lot of it is about people wanting to look big to the rest of the world. One thing I love about eastern philosophies, Buddhism, Taoism, and the like, is that there's a sense of unimportance to everyone and everything. These philosophies talk about how we aren't important and we shouldn't need to be, that we simply should just be. Unfortunately, the world is turning from these views. So many people just feel too important. They don't see how boring the world around them actually is and how great that can be.

Out of context: I do think, it is kinda interesting how American politics and and media work. You do not have a real established *free* media and in terms of running a campaign, it sorts of bashing the other party. In Germany this is rather uncommon and is being seen as dirty, so parties rather focus on promoting their programms etc. You still have a debate but not like having slogans that bash other parties. In Russia you would probably get -cut out- if you know what I mean, if you critisize the Putin-party. So it is in general considered more free to run campaigns like that but it is still very limited compared to multiple countries in Europe.

@timelessness We have free media, it's just that you have to find it. It's not what you see on Main stream, your CNN's, FoxNews, MSNBC, what not. But a lot of news from the main stream is shot to the top of sites like Youtube, google, and such, while the more independent sources are pushed down or outright banned. It's a god damn circus act here, though when it comes to our political parties. It's become a shouting match and it's like each party will stop at nothing to destroy the other side. You don't get a whole lot of good debate and an actual dive into policy, sadly.

@mrkingofspades I do think your ways of free media are different from many European countries, not just Germany, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Lithuania and other countries in that sprectrum. Not talking about Russia etc.. for example RT - Russia Today - is in Germany a way to support anti-vaccers. (In Russia, the same channel is used to support vaccination btw). On another note, the information just shared after this post is based of Fox News. If I went to a German University.... or just write a term paper and quote on a video or an article written by Fox News, my term paper would be graded an F. Idk why people keep on sharing videos on this platform, that come from a news outlet like this. It is a shame, honestly that people also in America (Germany too btw) start to wear a yellow star on their chests, labeling them as 'Unvaccinated' which is only supporting 'Anti-Semitism' and is insulting every jew that has been gased and killed during WWII and before. I am also shocked how many people are not taught in media expertise - which was never taught by older generations. It is a shame.

Google the headline. If 20-30 other news outlets are also talking about Navy Seals suing over vaccine mandates, its fair to say Fox isn't lying about it. I'm not defending them. They have sensationalized news just as badly as CNN has they both have an "us vs them" mentality. Even independent journalists are taking on that mentality. But a lot of stories you can't spin, like this one, especially if its corroborated by other sources. Your teacher sounds biased as fuck and honestly the "I don't read things from [incert news outlet]," is getting old, especially if other sources are talking about it. Maybe your professor needs to require more than one source instead of selectively shitting on ones in particular from their personal bias.
