now in debates you can also debate morals and ethics, but that's only because sometimes people don't know the facts behind the ethics. for example: person 1: "cars are bad for the environment because they emit CO2." person 2: "that's not true, cars let me drive to my friends and family, and climate change is a hoax."
well, here you can discuss ethics because one person has the wrong facts.

yeah, its hard to misconstrue ethics
someone on here tried to debate that social contract was the base of ethics, but that is wrong on so many levels
if you agree that empathy is the base of ethics, then to eat animals is simply unethical

or we could get into name the trait
like, what trait is your reason to think animals are less than humans?
what trait or multiple traits do humans possess that animals do not that allows humans to have domain over them?

A couple of reasons
1. I am not morally opposed to eating animal and animal products. I don't want inhumane conditions prior to killing the animals but I am just not sitting here crying that a cow had to die for me to eat my steak.(Which, if it offends you I'm genuinely not trying to)
2. Tried a vegan diet for about 3 months... health reasons and all. I thought it'd be healthier for me. So after feeling sick, weak, a major change in my mood and a few blood tests I was becoming vitamin deficient in MANY areas and generally feeling like crap so I had to travel far and away just to get supplements and take them regularly for the sake of avoiding foods that ultimately I had no problem eating.
3. Vegan forums I visited for diet tips were FILLED with such vitriol and hatred for meat eaters. It was crazy. That very partially swayed me away from the lifestyle
4. Generally less freedom and accessibility in what I can eat. And while yes I do keep an eye on what I put in my body, with that I had so many more restrictions. Not to mention it is much more expensive to keep up with. This may be an argument from convenience. And you may be thinking that my wanting life to be easier doesn't trump the cruelty of eating animal products. But as I said, the fact is it doesn't bother me to eat animals.
5. I love the taste of cheese, butter, and eggs. And I'd rather support the companies that humanely gather my products than to try and blacklist them all. Incentivize people to make better decisions and all.
6. I lift and move and generally exercise a lot. The amount of calories I consume to maintain all this is just too much to be trying to do it all vegan for me.
TL:DR : Being vegan for me was a short lived experience because it was expensive, time consuming, deteriorated my health, I could not keep up with my body's caloric demands, I felt terrible physically and mentally after a while not aided by the stigma and hatred I witnessed from many people I came to for help and it required cutting away some of my favorite food. All of this while I was never morally opposed to eating animals or animal product.

i'm sure lamby's gonna say it but you really have to ease into a diet. you can't go cold turkey with something like a vegan diet, especially if you come from eating a lot of meat.

@yestotally, Thing is that I personally have little reason to ease into it. Besides that would only address one of the concerns I had

nah im not offended, i was a carnist for the majority of my life too, we get desensitized because of the role meat plays in our culture
1. You say you don't want inhuman practices yet do nothing to stop those practices, which makes me believe you just don't care or are turning a blind eye for mouth pleasure. If you actually cared, you'd do something. I turned a blind eye until i saw how meat was really made. I saw that meat is not meat, it's the muscle tissue of the corpse of a cow. Your not eating beef, your eating the muscle tissue of a cow.
2. This is anecdotal. I was vegan for 3 months as well and i felt better than i ever had. I still don't eat meat and very rarely do i take in milk and i'm allergic to eggs, so i only get milk and eggs through secondary sources. This is why anecdotes can't be used in debates.
3. Again, this isn't really partial to a debate. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them, but to us you are doing terrible things. Your supporting torture and murder of helpless animals, and people are very sensitive over animals. Think to the chinese dog festival. They boil dogs alive and then sell it as street food. This makes you very mad, doesn't it?
4. Veganism is barely more expensive as most meats are more expensive as vegan mock meats. Just don't buy the luxury vegan mock meats and it's very cheap. Think about it, what's more expensive? Packaged meats or the produce aisle? Beans and rice are extremely cheap as well.
5. If i said i loved the taste of baby orphans, could i be in the right to kill and eat them?
6. Again, anecdotal. I can link several vegan athletes and the fact that vegans on average are more healthier.

actually yestotally i went cold turkey into it and i was fine. just eat what you already bought and next grocery trip stock up on beans, grains, fruits and vegetables
you have to eat a more varied diet, which lets you expand on your flavor pallet and try new foods you otherwise wouldnt have

i would totally agree with what you said. i'm sure he wasn't eating varied enough, but that's exactly why you can't exactly go cold turkey. if you go cold turkey, you need to be prepared and have a list of things that would be a replacement for what you usually eat.
