@a1ephy One of my previous employers sent me a notification that all employees' (including former) personal information containing social security and home addresses had been leaked onto the internet by them. https://i.ani.me/0338/7334/grey.jpg In addition Equifax was also hacked. If you're familiar Equifax contains every United States citizens' credit report which includes social security and address. https://i.ani.me/0338/7334/grey.jpg So with 2 different leakers it wasn't hard for someone to use my identity.

The first one really pissed me off because I hadn't worked for that company in 10 years. Not sure why they kept my stuff for that long. I would have sued but conveniently they filed for a class action absolving them of any wrong doing.

The person looking to get US government assistance. About 10,000 Virginia residents had social security benefits withdrawn in their name for disability, unemployment, or retirement. In addition illegal immigrants were being issued the stolen identity for employment and housing.
