Not at all. They're both social and economical ideologies. Pure socialism is generally a precursor for communism.

Even marxism states that socialism is necessary for communism.. Not saying all socialist places become communist but it is necessary if that was the route someone was taking.

Marxism isn't a person. Nobody states that socialism is necessary for communism. There was none in Russia and eastern Europe before the USSR. You sound very American.
