Political rants

Important to know: everybody can just start a party and campaign and become part of the election list so people can vote for them. If they gain a certain percentage of the votes, they get a certain amount of chairs in our version of congress. 10% of all votes is 15 chairs in the chamber. This year about 20 chairs went to completely new political parties that only stated campaigning the last couple of years

The problem is as follows: everybody knows whether they like Pepsi or Coca Cola better. This is like asking the general public what kind of engine you should install in a car when rebuilding it. They don't know shit and don't do research and just end up buying the one most people tell them they bought last time or the one people use cool words to describe or just the one that looks cool

We have a party that wants to increase minimum wage. That's their main selling point. The party is called SP, the Socialist Party. There's people that vote for VVD because they promise higher minimum wages, because they mentioned it once. VVD isn't really going to do that and by far not as much as SP would, but they vote for VVD. It doesn't make any sense

It's like saying you're voting Biden because you want a wall with the Mexican border and you heard him mention it once, not realising it was about him condemning Trump for wanting to build that wall

Your countries system is still way more democratic than American democracy. You still have way more choice. Choice does not exist in American democracy. Sure, there will always be dominate parties in any democratic system. But if people don't like the parties. At least in your own country. People can start their own party. You'll probably get some seats. Not in the US. Good luck trying to start a third party in the US. Better yet, as a third party. Good luck trying to get 10% of all votes or 20 seats in US congress.

(Sorry, had to duck out because of a follow up interview.) I feel like having people vote on a guy due to sensationalism without actually looking at their policies is a pretty universal concern. I get it. And even though there are only two large parties officially recognized, we have closer to five here in the states. Liberals, Conservitaves, Libertarians, Progressives, and Centrists. Then those oddball minority parties like communists, anarchists, fascists, theocratic nationalists, and all that stuff. They're the "I read it in a book, it must be right" party that thanks to the internet, have been getting a lot of traction lately. We just simplify to red vs blue after narrowing it down to two during the primaries. Most of us agree that we'd benefit from more options though. But it benifits the establishment to have it narrowed to two because it means they can get their people in and resist change.

Yeah, what Aleph said, a lot of the grass root parties like progressives and libertarians get shafted most of the time during the primaries by gerrymandering and other forms of of voting suppression.

Oh, I forgot. there's also the green party. I don't actually know much about them, since the media tries really hard to make people forget they exist. Like they do the libertarians and progressives, while giving so much attention to the most radical ideologies in order to give them a negative image. Cept with the green party, there's no straw man to post as their poster child, so it just appears on the ballot like "Wait, who's this Jill Stein person?" Far as I know, they tend to crossover with the libertarians more, but their policies are very eco focused rather than political. If someone knows more about them, please say something.

As I said many times here, the Dem x Rep dichotomy is convenient for both parties.

Sure, It has its advantages, but currently in America, that's a crutch for out of touch, corrupt boomers to stay in power long after their relevance has faded in order to resist the changing political landscape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRG-dms6TOU
