My Mom watched the original Fruits Basket with me back when it first came out, so now she's watching the reboot with me when I visit. She still loves it, so I'd say it was a good bit of bonding. She doesn't care for animated films, so getting her into anime was a hard sell. lol
This might not come off as an obvious choice, but Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, if you can get her to not be hung up on the name, it's solid. Great art, beautiful music, a tragic love story, plenty of action, and clean.
I would have to recommend Your Name, I showed my 70 year old religious grandma that and she liked it! Anything lighthearted like that you really can't go wrong with!
