It's not their job to run. It's their job to apprehend someone considered dangerous. Wasn't there children in the van? That alone was an incredible liability. The cops are damned if they do and damned if they don't in a lot of situations. That's by no means to excuse the 7 shots in the back. But there are other factors. The types of weapons they use, semi-autos. How they are trained to shoot, rapid bursts or single shots. Muscle memory could have triggered from duress. All it boils down to is that there is definite reformation needed with policing. It's unfortunate, it was excessive, but there were children on the scene, possible history of assault, and suspicion of a weapon. The police were trying to do their job, albeit a horribly trained job. Ever seen the opening scene to Season 1 Mindhunter? I think every policeman should see it in training.

Yes reflexes should be tested, trianing should be had, qualifications should be raised. Like i said make it harder to become police officers. These people are the law, not above it. Thats why i feel a reform is needed. It should be something similar to a trade school. There should be actual testing involved to make sure these people are ready for whatever. Will we get a politician that will do this? Most likely not. One side thinks the police is fine now the other wants to get rid of them.

It's not something that's going to stop or go away with getting rid of police completely. As soon as the police force goes, gun sales are going up. I love how police are the highlight now and gun control has been put on a back burner now. There are still people capable of mass-shootings. What's going to happen when the police are defunding and that situation breaks down? It won't matter what color of hat you are wearing then.
