I used to work social services so thought I would actually throw some information out there. Medicare is most definitely for seniors, but also terminally ill patients. There's no age restriction on Medicare, just necessity and income thresholds. Medicaid is the state funded medical, or used to be, until the Healthcare Act aka "Obamacare" for the lamen. Now instead of applying for medicaid in your social services offices, you are provided with the Healthcare Marketplace website. SNAP is food benefits that is funded by the Federal Goverment but adminstered by the states. Some states offer what was once known as "welfare", in Oklahoma it was called TANF. It was a program to help single parents further their education to ensure careers for them to support their children. In order to receive TANF benefits and state funded medical, single parents or adopted parents were required to file child support on the child's natural parents. Some states also have Childcare services which is assistance to help pay for daycare services to ensure parents can maintain their jobs. I worked in social services for over 6 years. Seriously, 50% EASY leeches and liars. Some people need the help. Some people need it more than others. Many lie to get it. It's a shame that its spoiled for others.

One of my specializations was writing over payments for SNAP "accidents" or fraud. Literally the only one in my county that would do it. I worked with the OIG on cases in our department.
