The system isnt working though. How has this guy been able to kill multiple people leading up to George floyd. He even knew george before he killed him. But got a 3rd degree murder charge after sitting on his neck for up to 9 mins. Thats why people are outraged

It should have been 2nd degree. No ifs ands or buts. The other police officers should have gotten accomplice to murder and manslaughter charges. It should have been treated no differently than CIVILIANS are treated.

@veru that was definitely 1st degree, it had to be premeditated considering no one just happens to accidentally kneel on someones neck as they begged. Especially when the guy was dead and he still stayed on the neck to make sure he was beyond saving.

Panda it's a numbers game too though. 1st degree is more premeditated as in lots of planning before hand. If he was charged with 1st degree and tried there's too big of a chance he would be found innocent by a jury. Def 2nd degree. "First degree murder requires that a defendant plan and intentionally carry out the killing, whereas second degree murder requires that the killing either be intentional or reckless, and occur in the spur of the moment. Taking the time to plan another's death is arguably a more serious crime."

Im only saying 1st degree becauss he knew this guy. It wasnt like he just showed up for a call and killed the man. He knew him, had the opportunity to stop, but didnt. Its like already having a gun in a car getting into an argument and then remember the gun. Thats 1st degree this should also be 1st degree. Seeing as with other officers on the scene there wasnt even a need to restrain the guy like he did they all could have just forcefully put him in a squad car for resisting or whatever.

I understand what you're saying, but the reason why there are degrees for crimes like this, Murder, Rape, etc. is because there are always too many varying factors. It all gets hashed out in the investigation and then the trials. But by definition, it was intentional/reckless, and spur of the moment. He and the other officers would never be found guilty of First Degree Murder based on the definition alone. They would have to change the laws to get it to fit and that's not going to happen. So say they charge him with 1st Degree. What happens when he is found innocent? They can't charge him again. This is the same thing that happened with Trayvon Martin.

All im saying a regular civilian would have gotten the worst punishment possible. It took public outcries for them to even consider firing him.
