As someone that loves their waifu VERY much, I take offense to your statement. However, your free to express your opinion, though it does seem a bit out of place on a forum with Otaku in its name.

Is liking a waifu/husbando any less sad than liking a car or celebrity? Celebrities are mostly fantasy we don't really see their day to day life. They wouldn't date us. A car is a machine that can't love you back yet some people spend more time on their car than with other people. It's just a matter of picking your poison.

It's basically being a loving fan of specific characters. Something about their characteristics causes admiration. Just like sports fans admire specific teams or players. Collectors admire and love the items they want. Love has no boundaries nor does admiration. Each person has their specifics. I find it confusing why people love watching sports and get so emotionally involved, but it's cuz that's what their interest and heart is connected to. It might come off sad that we have husbandos or waifus, but it's the kind of sad state I have no problem in feeling shameless on. As long as i don't go delusional and start expecting human beings to be these characters instead of who they truly are.
