I'd like to think online relationships can be just as good but I just have a hard time believing people mean what they say and really care online. It's so easy to just say the right things and give people a false impression. I'm probably just paranoid though.
I also think that meeting someone online and making plans to meet up irl shows that you're serious.

I mean, my best friend got married to her online only for like 7 years boyfriend, so I do think they work out. But communication is key. Communication can be hard enough face to face but whatever communication problems you have is only exacerbated by the distance

Well I really hope that online relationships can actually work because my love life thus far off of the internet has been nonexistent lol.

We all got that hope, but they're a myth.
(Which means you're as likely to succeed in one as seeing a unicorn. Thus you can only make it work by modifying a horse w/ a narwhal's tooth. Which would end in cruel and unusual punishments for animal cruelty and PETA could be on your ass, so even if an online relationship worked, you'd have to leave the country to escape the authorities ~______~)

I think they can- if the intent is there in a serious sense and also further intent that you want to make the relationship happen in the physical sense (willingness and planning to travel escalating to the next stage etc).
I think apart from the communication side the other biggest danger of failure is if the effort isn't put in from one of the two parties involved. Especially the meeting part. I've had a few successful ones that started out online..but ultimately became "physical" the unsuccessful ones never got to that stage.
It's a tricky mix for some but certainly not impossible..if anything its easier now to make an Online/LDR relationship work because of all the extra options we have for various forms of communication (shard streaming video calling etc).
However...has that made people more complacent and less intent on taking things into the physical dimension these days? I suppose that's another topic entirely but it did just pop into my head typing this. XD

All the lonely people. Where do they all belong?
Why worry either way? It's proven to work and its proven not to work. Roll the dice and take a chance or sit and blame the world for your lack of romance. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents since "technically" I met my wife online. Of course, we met on another site and actually met up in real life. I could never have done the online thing, only. I've seen a few on here who are together, in separate countries or continents and clearly will never meet... I never understood that.

XD...My irl acquaintances' LDRs have been successful so far...Cultural differences, language barriers, distance haven't affected their commitment negatively.ก(ー̀ωー́ก)
I think one reason why they manage to have longterm relationships with their partners is that they are serious and determined rather than clingy and insecure, though they were young when they started dating their partners. And their partners are financially stable enough to fly to this country to meet up with them. Also they appreciate their partners.

I would rather catch a nightmare than a unicorn. At least I know I'll have a good time.... a horribly evil, suspenseful time of running for my life...
