Spaying/Neutering your pets

yaasshat
Lamby, Just for arguments sake... We didn't domesticate cats, they came to us about the time agricultural started being a thing. Grains meant little critters and cats just so happen to like to eat little critters. We really haven't bred them to the extent we have something like dogs. Lots of breeds, yes, but most are able to survive just fine on thier own where alot of pure bred dogs can hardly breath right let alone hunt for thier own food. In other words, cats are probably closer to thier wild ancestors than dogs are. Few animals are actually worth domesticating and yes, most are quite hard to domesticate. No expertise here, just a documentary taught fool.XD

Yes, unless you'll take responsibility for the new born dog/cats. Better plan ahead on how many pets you can manage rather than throwing them out like trash, when it gets complicated.

Male cat spray smells pretty terrible. That alone should be reason enough to neuter your cat if you plan on having them indoors. Let alone letting them go outdoors a lot and making tons of babies with female strays and having them get into fights due to increased territorial aggression from still having their balls. Having an unspayed female in estrus will bring a lot of male strays around your home you might not want never mind the fact she'll constantly want to get out to mate with a male and acting all crazy and get knocked up very easily if she does. I find nothing about spaying or neutering "cruel" but just a necessity when planing on owning a pet long-term. There's already enough cats and dogs out there that get euthanized annually just due to shelter over-crowding.

I think it's important to spay or neuter your pets. As Lamby has pointed out, they will live longer, happier, healthier lives because it lessens the chances of cancer and other assorted diseases late in life and it eliminates mating hormones. I have my rabbits spayed and neutered as well; even disregarding the fact that you really cant have more than one rabbit if they're unaltered, it's ultimately better for them in the long run.

yass thats kind of a myth modern cats are utterly useless when it comes to pests (well my cat will eat a spider every now and then) when compared to dogs theyr far less effective unless aboard a ship or in a barn on the other hand domesticating them has led to the extinction of many bird species now cat domestication to my personal feelings was a good thing cause i love them, but environmentally its a bad thing (also toxoplasmosis) what i ment were the exotic animals, like many, many reptiles simply do not enjoy human contact and many humans do not treat them as they should be treated many collectors and breeders keep them in small plastic drawers with little to no enrichment on newspaper because "sneks are happiest in dark places where they can lay" if your going to have an exotic animal i think its unethical to not give them the most enrichment as possible (preferably in bioactive vivariums) personally, my theory is that animals like humans is because humans care for them like parents, and so they have a parental attachment to humans (like how cats will kneed on humans when theyr happy as they do with their mothers) and reptiles many times do not bond with parental figures just a theory, though i have seen monitors that enjoy the company of humans and like petting though, so who the shit knows
