"We Need To Talk" Your First Thought?

Whenever I say "we need to talk" , I mean it...I mean both parties should take the topic seriously and think out of some ways to strike a balance XD...usually the topic is so that important that it may affect some people's lives..

I'd honestly say I've used the line "we need to talk" more than other people have used it with me in a relationship, looking back I've had seriously poor taste in women when I was younger and kinda had to cut things off a few times. :u But yeah, like Enki...When I say that, it's definitely serious.

Sounds like a moment of seriousness and communication. I really hope people are able to freely communicate and not be afraid of this sentence. I understand why people are but realistically, sometimes you have to sit a person down to let them know that it is a time for growth with discussing a possible situation that one person is unhappy with. Also, it's usually not a bad thing and when I say it, it's usually about something small but important. Regardless, it can be said at a better timing like CAC mentioned. Instead of it being said when the person is doing something important (unless it can't wait) but in his situation, I think she could have waited until he was almost off work. >w>;;

Oh $#!@... I'm not going to like this. I've only said that a few times, and it was never good. Yasshat is right, the 'NEED' word tends to immediately put people on the defensive. "We need to talk" kind of comes across condescending. Like, I need to talk and you need to listen. Better to ask, "can we talk?" They're more likely to stay open minded.

As this is the first topic I've started other than an introduction, I'm amazed by how many of you responded. I can definitely see that there are varying reactions to "we need to talk", and I'd like to thank you all for sharing them, I didn't expect this many people to respond.
