I just made significant improvements to matching a few minutes ago, and the database is refreshing at the moment. More to come later I think.

I've been gone for a year and I just came back today. Like I would have been mad disappointed to know my account was gone.

Hmmm, this is just me, but if anything:
- the best thing would be if MO sent out an email to these inactive users about their inactive profiles. Giving them a headups about their account and if they would like to keep it, ignore it, or delete it.
- Like @Jinkusu pointed out that she recently just came back from a year hiatus. If her account was deleted outright without any warning, she has a right to be mad. It would at least been thoughtful if she had received a warning or notification about her account.
- There are some users who do come back after who knows how long that do give a "hey I'm taking a break, I'll be back sometime" so I can sympathize with them. There are some people I'm still waiting for to come back.
- And then there are those who: lose their password and make a new account, temporarily banned due to site bug or actual banned that make another account, and just griefers and trolls.
So in all, I think one thing we can do about these inactive accounts is to reach out to them via email about their MO Accounts.
>> Of course only the admin can do this, and maybe some Mods <<
- If they wish to keep their accounts, then they can by saying yes.
- If they say no, then delete it.
- If they ignore it, then give them a deadline to reply back and if they don't reply after said deadline, then delete the account
I think this is fair in my opinion.
Obviously like others have stated, there are some accounts that have been inactive for more than 4+ years.
I think that those accounts that are pushing past 3+ years have to go, and those that are 2 and under should receive leniency via email.
This is as fair as it gets and just my opinion. As someone who's been here 5+ years, I've seen people come and go (and sometimes cone back), and I do care about the MO Community and will do what I can to help out. I understand that there needs to be change time from time to accommodate those new people who join, but we must also look out for those who've been here since the old days. People might think I care a bit too much, but I'm just trying to look out for everyone. This site has done a lot for me and the least I can do is offer up my thoughts and opinions to give back and help.

I dunno. I recently met someone pretty cool here who came back after having an inactive account for a couple years apparently. Most might not come back but it's not impossible.

Yeah, there needs to be someway to filter out inactive accounts. In fact, looking through my friends list/old messages, they're mostly inactive or deleted accounts =/
There were some people who were really interesting, but oh well.
