I wouldn't blame it entirely on mentally ill people.everyplace got crazies, but how come school shootings are mostly in america. I think the gun laws should really be reformed. even if there mentally ill people if they have no access to guns, there won't be school shootings. Sure one can argue the killer can get a different weapon but at least it's not a gun. It's easier to detain someone with a knife than a gun.

I should have seen the "but the guns" thing coming. The guns are a mere symptom or tool not the root cause. There used to be rifle teams and people would often bring guns in their gun racks in their cars/trucks to hunt after school with. It wouldn't be unusual long ago for people to show their guns off. If people got into fist fights and such nobody ever went "I'm going to go to my car and get my 12 gauge".
Assault weapons bans or any other gun law would not stop such things from happening since the problem is societal.
"but Napalm if they didn't have a gun they wouldn't kill so many people"
While this can very well be the case but there hasn't been a proposed solution that wouldn't create a bigger problem than it solves. People treat guns as if they are a net negative on society - they clearly are not if you would take 15 minutes to research. An often cited (but buffed up and inaccurate figure but I'll use it anyway) is that guns are responsible for 33,000 deaths per year in America - but studies also show that guns are used *defensively* anywhere from 50,000 to 2,500,000 times per year. Defensive gun usage statistics are a lot like rape statistics where under reporting is rampant. However if we compare the highly inflated 33,000 (of which about 2/3 are suicide) with the deflated 50,000 ... that's still a net positive of 17,000 gun uses.
If you want to keep guns out of the schools unfortunately the only feasible solution is to harden the schools with security. While taking away guns and banning them may "feel good" (to people who are afraid and uneducated about them) it really won't do shit to curtail the problem and will create bigger problems in its wake. Also it should be incumbent (and a super majority of gun owners implicitly and explicitly take this responsibility) upon gun owners to secure them and identify if someone in the household should not be able to access the weapons and take measures to ensure this doesn't happen. The only part of gun ownership I could reasonably see attributed to this is sloppy and negligent gun safety from gun owners in securing their firearms.
As for why to get to the OP's point I believe it to be a combination of societal out-casting and other high school sourced social pressures and the glory that these shooters get from their massacres. People seem increasingly driven to these actions and I believe these two reasons are the primary factors. When someone isn't feeling respected or even treated humanely by their peers they no longer see them as their peers - or when they feel like they aren't valued they will not reciprocate unfortunately. This makes it a lot easier to then make the decision to take lives.

Also to correct a lot of ignorance about US gun laws from foreigners and US citizens alike ...
It is NOT easier to get guns than cigarettes, alcohol or produce - in order to get a gun you must pass a background check, meet certain other criteria as well. In order to get a permit in most states you must do this again and meet other criteria (and in a few "progressive and smart" states good luck with that)
"Stricter gun laws will help"
LIKE HELL THEY WILL - most of the gun violence that isn't suicide (to the extent that this truly is gun violence) takes place where.... THERE ARE THE MOST RESTRICTIONS (yes I'm totally going Chicago and California on this one)
"gun usage for hunters or self defense won't be compromised"
with the proposed restrictions and regulations that I've seen touted about after someone saying something to this effect .... once again proves that people who are pro gun regulation are completely and wholly unaware of anything guns like at fucking all ... all of those restrictions are nothing but compromise and limitations
People who don't know anything about guns other than where the bullet comes out of should not consider themselves qualified to tell gun owners what IS and IS NOT needed for self defense. There are *many* different self defense situations and each situation a different firearm would be better suited.
A lot of people will use "compromise" as if gun owners will get something in return (you know the proper usage of the term compromise) but what ya'll really mean is capitulation. I'm not against gun regulations at all but they do have to legitimately DO good not just FEEL good. Furthermore they must actually be "common sense".

Same reason anyone does a crime.
We'd still be getting them with stricter gun laws(If not more due to the fact the area's with them, have more shootings.), and even without them, we'd still have just as much death(Look at UK's violet crime rate.). This wasn't happening thirty, forty years ago, and you can be sure we had guns then.
It's the culture that's skewered right now. And until then, We're going to have more and more tragedy.
