"People tried banning guns, didn't work." - Where, when? What people are you talking about?
"You cannot tell me that in a line for self defense, you would not shoot a man who tried committing an unspeakable act to you and you had no other choice but to accept defeat or shoot him." - I would first of all not end up in such a situation. Why do so few rich people get shot? Well, simply because they don't hang around with idiots the whole day.
"Also, you really think that by educating people they are going to automatically stop buying firearms?" - Why don't you take a look to Japan? http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-38365729
"I'm not saying that guns should be the first thing that you reach for when you are attacked, but as a last shot to be safe it might save your life." - I only have to "defend" myself with a gun when the attacker has a gun as well. Why are you even assuming that you (or me) will get attacked in the fist place? Any first hand experience? Any trouble, involving violence, I had so far could be solved without someone ending up dead (shot).

I have nothing bad to say about Germany or any place for that matter so why the heat? Even if you take away all the weapons and sharp objects in the world and wrapped everything in bubble wrap they can still choke each other. The real issue is people and how we cope, or not cope for that matter. Working on others state of minds not just weapon control.

Guns are one of the few things where some in the world feverishly insist on blaming everything but the actual problems. Guns used to be MORE common around schools and many other places and there used to be LESS shootings. Some schools used to have rifle teams and students having rifles in their cars for post school hunting was commonplace in some schools.
Someone mentioned it before but societal and moral decay play a huuuhhhuuugggeee factor in this. We have more mentally unstable people wandering about and more people are becoming "unstable" than in generations past. Despite many calls for diversity and inclusion there is increasing exclusion and isolation (ironically a great deal by the people calling for said diversity and inclusion).
As an American Gun owner I'm pretty pissed that every time something horrible like this happens I'm somehow blamed just for being a gun owner, NRA supporter (not member just support overall cause). Like are all black people responsible for the black on black crime in Chicago?! If this is indeed the case then fine I'm indirectly responsible and there is blood on my hands too for what happened in Florida yesterday....
The problem when people legitimately try to discuss gun regulations - the people most in favor of them know damn near nothing about guns so everything that comes out of their mouths or are typed with their fingers sounds fucking asinine and anathema to anybody who even sort of knows anything about guns. I mean would you want someone who doesn't know the difference between a vagina, cervix, clitoris, and anus drafting up abortion regulations?!
If you use or subscribe to "assault weapons" (as opposed to assault rifles), believe an AR-15 is an assault rifle/weapon, that semi-automatic rifles are assault rifles, that magazines and clips are interchangeable terms, you fit into what I described in my last paragraph and should recuse yourself from any gun law/restriction discussion due to ignorance until education is gained.
Its not the guns - it never has been the guns themselves. You can ban the AR-15 (and similar semi-auto rifles) but you'd barely see a dent in gun violence statistics (you'd be better off banning glock handguns). Do I want to see the likes of Lanza and Cruz shooting up schools - no ... nobody does. Doing something for the sake of doing something won't do shit but impede (otherwise) law abiding citizens. Calling for a gun grab is a lazy and easy way to go about it but it would barely accomplish shit even if it did happen. So is placing blame and guilt on the NRA, gun owners, Trump and Republican politicians who wont just knee jerk make into law a bunch of feel good jibberish that won't really accomplish a damn thing guilty for these heinous acts as if they've committed them personally.
One armed guard is nowhere near enough to cover the area that guard was tasked with covering especially with a fire alarm pulled and that chaos stacked with the chaos of gunfire. I'm not big on arming teachers themselves because that could really go wrong too and leaves itself to other horrible things transpiring. To say "oh there WAS an ARMED GUARD and look what happened" is also lazy and idiotic.
Problem with the emotional reactions and knee jerk reactions to "do something anything" is that coupled with ignorance over subject matter - an equal ignorance about what kind of laws or regulations would actually work. Even with all of these atrocious events guns are still overwhelmingly a net positive in America. Its pretty agreed upon that the average gun deaths / year are 33,000 (and also pretty agreed that 2/3 of those are suicides and the majority of the remaining 1/3 are inner city gang related) .... but even if we don't factor out the suicide even the most lenient and least inclusive of estimates will show 60,000+ defensive gun uses per year that saved lives, prevented abductions, rapes, and things of that nature (defensive gun stats are hard to accurately compile since like rape - it is very under-reported) and that you can sometimes use a gun defensively WITHOUT firing a shot.
Even if this school shooting problem COULD be solved with a heavy slate of regulations a much more prominent problem would be exacerbated. More people would be less able to defend themselves as there would be more "gun free" zones or places/locations where guns are legally very hard to come by for the average citizen - would lead to much more of a death toll than is already the case.
tl'dr: gun owners aren't guilty by association, most if not all regulations one would suggest would not stop this phenomenon from occurring (and most people suggesting them are very very ignorant of the subject matter), even with these heinous occurrences guns are a net positive to America .... and most importantly its not the GUNS its the PEOPLE

I'm clearly pro-gun as shit but I've spent countless efforts trying to find just ONE good anti-gun argument without any significant holes or flaws or that outweigh pro-gun sentiments but I literally cannot. Every time I see a gun control argument I'm rolling my eyes like holy hell this nonsense again. The thought diversity of anti-gunners is staggeringly low.
EDIT: its not simply "I disagree with this opinion" (with or without solid good points) its "this person has no fucking clue what they're talking about so I can't give this any validity"

BBC is biased. EVERY newspaper is biased. It is your job as the reader to read up on different point of views and find "your" truth.
@Napalm, it does not matter whether you know how to reload a rifle or not. The point is, they are easy to use, easy to obtain and made for killing people. It is a lot harder to build your own bomb at home. If 9 out of 10 guys that do a school shooting only use guns, and number 10 uses bombs as well, than 9 will have no means of doing any harm, except for their hands and a knive maybe. Number 10 now has a bomb left. So you got basically rid of 90% of the idiots that would do something so horrendous. I'm sure the amount of guys using bombs is, compared to the shooters, midget.
"But I honestly think that a gun can save people." - It doesn't save a life if it has to take one. If you talk someone out of suicide, that 's a life saved. If you rescue an unconscious person out of a burning building, that 's a life saved. If you reanimate someone, you get it. If you can settle something peacefully BEFORE someone shoots another person, that is a live saved.
No idea what your father did in his life to end up in so many shitty situations. I kinda feel sorry for him, maybe he is a good guy. But if it was out of pure random, what do you intend to do? Give EVERYONE a gun? How about giving no one a gun? After all, following your logic you need a gun to defend yourself. So that particular right also accounts for others. Great, now you armed the "bad guys".
"As an American Gun owner I'm pretty pissed that every time something horrible like this happens I'm somehow blamed just for being a gun owner." - Welcome to the club. :)
"wrapped everything in bubble wrap they can still choke each other" - Yes, I totally agree. But it takes A HELL OF A LOT more overcoming to choke someone. Pulling a trigger is really easy. If you don't believe me try it yourself. Go hunt some deer. Next you start choking someone you really don't like. I bet you won't. Most people won't. Even the school shooters won't. They know exactly that they are inferior without a weapon. That 's why they use guns. Pick up a gun, go into a classroom, no one else but you has a gun. If you have M9 beretta in your hand you can shoot 15 rounds without reloading. Great, does it get any easier to kill someone? No it doesn't. Even if you were to use a bomb you still have to place it, set it correctly and while placing and transporting, as well as reading up on the topic, you can be caught. It is far more risky than just taking a pistol, go through the main entrance and start shooting. Because then you can start right at the moment that YOU want. By using bombs you have to plan the whole thing and will probably have some doubts about your plan and will start to be unsure about it.

I see some people going on about homicide rates in the US vs other developed countries in Europe is not apples to apples at all. As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong please - as I can't say this is something I've put a whole lot of thought or research into) these other countries such as Germany have guns restricted country wide with (essentially) uniform laws across the entire country.
In America depending on where you are talking about guns are either very regulated or not all that heavily regulated. Here is the kicker - there are more shootings and gun deaths (again factoring out suicides) in......THE LOCATIONS IN AMERICA WITH DRACONIAN GUN REGULATIONS ... that's right the places in America that try their best to mimic Australia or European countries are where the most gun deaths are piled up (I mean shit one city alone - Chicago shows this). American gun laws aren't uniform by any stretch of the imagination and it would serve Europeans and other foreigners talking about American gun laws to be cognizant of this. To simply say "America is a gun loving free for all guns everywhere no questions asked" (or something to that effect) is ignorant as fuck and in some places very much untrue. Now I'm not outright saying a non American should fuck off this discussion but if a non American should find the need to throw their opinion into the fray either be informed or at least admit you're not all that informed.
Also people like to use deaths from justifiable self defense shootings in "gun deaths" statistics like we're talking about the same senseless gun violence like we saw yesterday in Florida. This is apples to oranges and is intellectually dishonest but then again anti-gunners have 0 intellectual honesty to begin with so no shocker here. No person who favors gun control actually wants an honest conversation about the problem - if they did they would actually have one and not just clamor for gun restrictions as if its the guns that are the problem and think it sacrilegious to talk about anything else no matter how many multiples more relevant it is.
Why are the people who do this doing this and how can we stop those urges from ever forming or coming to fruition at critical mass? What reasonable regulation can we put in place to prevent this (particularly without infringing on the rest of the population / self defense capability of the masses)? Should we focus more on identifying and stopping these urges in people or focus more on deterrents to eliminate or reduce death tolls and injuries? Should we focus more energy and resources on gun violence by type of weapon or by location of it happening? These are the type of questions that need to be asked and actual conversations based upon not..... how many guns can we ban and take away (or you know how many rights can we violate under the guise of something or another)
