Anyone going to the DC Otakon 2018 Convention?

Depending on what my financial situation looks like by August, I might consider it. I went to Otakon 2017 last summer and had a great time. Though to be honest, I mostly went that year because JAM Project was performing. Seeing them perform live was literally a thing on my bucket list. :u

I haven't attended one before. I've only really been to one Con actually. It was the Tidewater ComiCon, a local Comicon in my area. I went by myself and didn't have much to do, wasn't really appealing to me especially since the space was so crowded. There's an anime con that also runs in my area called NekoCon that runs in Nov. each year. Haven't been to that one either. Cons aren't something I see worth doing unless I go with other people, and since I lack experience in being at a con I typically don't see much of the appeal.

I've been to NekoCon a bunch of times over the years, it's definitely a smaller scale con, but the venue is nice. Had some interesting guests too. Also yeah going to a convention alone is pretty lame, you definitely wanna go with friends.
I guess for me the main appeal is the community aspect, checking out the dealer's room, going in the game room to hang out and play multiplayer stuff, checking out the various panels (I've done few panels myself alongside my friend actually), oh and of course the guests. I'm super into seiyuu/japanese voice actors, so I'd jump at the opportunity to interact with some of my favorites like Yui Horie, Kanae Ito, Saori Hayami, Aoi Yuuki, etc...though unfortunately none of those people have actually showed up at any cons on the east coast to my knowledge.
Though there's usually a bunch of other attractions at most anime cons, but those are the ones I usually look forward to.

When did they switch to D.C? Last time I went, it was still being held at the Baltimore inner harbor convention center. Been nearly ten years.

I'd love to go, but I'm not sure my wife would be up for it and I definitely would not take my new born (He'll be born in June). It was a lot of fun, when it was in Baltimore. If nothing else, they had an enormous room dedicated to nothing but gaming, on every console you could think of.

That sounds really cool, but I probably won't go either unless I can find someone else to go with me, and it'd probably only be for a day.

Not sure how much it is now, but I'm guessing over $60 for the weekend and unfortunately, there aren't just day passes. It really is a lot of fun, if you go in with a plan and know who/what's there. People of all ages too. There used to be a woman who came (must've been in her mid sixties) that dressed up and everyone just knew her as otagranny. Mostly, really nice people, just crowded.
