I don't draw often anymore but a friend asked me to start drawing again.

Today he asked me to draw a birb. Here is one I did in a few hours.

Start with basic shapes. Try drawing 3d shapes from multiple perspectives particularly cylinders. Then, whether you are drawing a person or animal, try breaking them down into said simple shapes. Study proportions and anatomy as well as where features of the face are located. Save color for after. For now its best that you make sure your designs are anatomically accurate
