Things that people don't usually think If you are depressed and you have too much free time and no friends, go get a part time Having too much free time isn't good for people with probable depression :v

I love all the "duuuuuhhh...I know...uhhhh...U haz to be social 'n stuff...Oh yeah, eat right 'n exercise...Duuhh...Yeah, das ta problem.". That's what all the asinine advice given sounds like to someone who's thought and done all of this to no avail. All depression is not the same and to treat someone as if they're lazy, stupid, incompetent or just being antisocial, that's belittling and downplaying something that can be (not always, depends on the cause) so much more complex than you seem to "think" since you had a pet die and know what it feels like to have any sort of CLINICAL depression. Internet advice is fun. :)

The point of doing stuffs is because you will not think about depressive things if you are focused on something else Sometimes a break is necessary cuz work is stressful sometimes But having too much free time is also not good Reduce your time to think like shit helps you get a better mood on the long term How do I know that? Cuz when I am in holidays I think more about dying :v When I have college work to do, my mind is busy doing good and boring stuffs, but busy This isn't treatment for everyone, but for me helps :v

Sal is right, for me too, the only way to overcome all the depressive stuff is being busy. It's obviously not easy. Depression kills motivation after all. But that's how you know you are going in the correct path. A lot of free time doesn't help in that state of mind. It also doesn't mean "Stop being lazy and get to work", since you can be busy in many ways, like using that time on a hobby, improving on it, or if you don't have one, that time can be used exploring and finding one. Learning a language, and instrument, I don't know. Other kinds of help, like diet, seeking professional help, etc, are only to help you go back on that track.

"Sal is right, for me too, the only way to overcome all the depressive stuff is being busy." To questioning your thoughts here there are also depressed people who have also a job and hobbies. There is no specific way to cure depression it's a complicated illness with many varriations. The most effective way to handle your depression is to look to yourself first. Start questioning many possibillities in your life and questioning why and how. If you have the "tunnel vision" it gets double as hard to beat it by your own since you lost your sense to get logical conclusion or even worse you can't even imagine why you feel depressed. Even if you think you are. Talking to your Dr is better than talking to some randoms from the internet.

It's not a cure, It's more a way to deal with it. After all, people need more that one thing to feel "not-depressed" (I don't want to say happy, the word is too big rofl). I only think being "busy" is the most accesible way to deal with it, since it can end on fullfiling a career or skill, it can give a feeling of improvement through time. Psychologists and psychiatrists obviously don't have their profession just because. Different depressions have different roots, it's neccesary to get the correct help so you can get your life back in order.

Ed, I got lucky then. My wife fully accepts me, but then again, she had it a bit worse than I and understands what it's like. Finding people with that common link can sometimes be a big support, to know you're not alone in a world that says "Just go outside and that'll make it all better.". In my experience, most don't even think it's possible to be depressed for weeks, months or years and there be no real logical reason or quick fix.
