College Advice

vapor_wave
I am finally in the process of getting into college. I was a B student in high school but I had to work in order to survive so I never went to college. Now that I'm older, and a little more stable, I'd love to attend college. My long term goals in life are to move to Japan where I can surf and fish, but I have no idea what I want to do with my life in terms of work. I want to help people, animals and the environment. I'm interested in horticulture, the Japanese language and nursing. I was going to go to the Art Institute in Dallas to study photography, but I don't believe I can make a living off of photography and I want to move near the beaches in California. My questions are: 1. What do you think I should study after giving you this info? 2. What are some jobs in Japan that I could possibly study for? Thanks friends :)

@Darkling - I've heard that English teachers are very disrespected in Japan, and I'm not afraid of anything in life... Except speaking in front of crowds so I might have a problem with that lol @dandaman - MY BROTHER I'VE NEVER CONSIDERED THOSE TWO OPTIONS AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM! I will look more into both of them, thank you :)

Seconding marine biology and ecology fields. You might want to also take a look at forestry. And I know English teachers in Japan and they love it. The thing is, you basically work as a human tape recorder for correct pronunciation a lot of the times so it might be boring. Some programs are better than others. JET is one of the best and the most competitive. You don't need to know Japanese to apply. And for the record, there are also similar programs for Korea if you were ever interested.
