has to have somewhat similar interests and mindset but it mainly comes down to when I meet that person if they should be my friend or not.

Usually, my friends are met in day-to-day life somewhere, while not trying to meet anyone.
They initiate the friendship.
I prefer the fire Signs, especially Aries.
Female friends betray 99% of the time.
Friends of either gender abandon 99% of the time.
Aries stick around. Even when we rarely talk for years.

Loyalty. Someone who wouldn't turn their backs on me when I needed them despite me being there for them all these times.

Honesty above all. To me this counts for all relationships: friends / romantic /professional etc.
I can't stand people who are two-faced / liars.

I'm lucky enough to say that the first friend I ever made, is my best friend today. Even after all of this time I still get all "giddy" about her. So, I'd have to say that making great memories, the ability to make each other laugh to the point of tears, and knowing that you can always rely on them no matter what, is what an ideal friend for me.
