Internet Addiction

sherflow
TL;DR: Discuss your opinion and experiences in regards to internet or gaming addiction. Or contribute via providing information and remedies of said addictions. Oh boy. So, not so long I had noticed that my attention span wasn't what it used to be, I could no longer read for more than 10 minutes, I can't sit through a movie or a YouTube video without skipping around to the good bits and probably my biggest one is that I couldn't write down my studies and creative pieces for any extended period of time. This is stupid and dumb, I've trace things back to my constant procrastination through music, games and you guessed it, the internet as I figured I have an addiction which didn't take long. This has had an effect my life in a, to under sell it, 'less-than-stellar' way. I have made numerous attempts to fix/improve myself over past year or two, but alas, only to relapse into late night hermithood once again. And, Ultimately, have since fallen into another bout of depression. However, when I was feeling worst I've been all year, this video appeared in my sub box, as if it were some kind celestial sign from a guardian angel in heaven. Video: Digital Hygiene: How we fucked our Attention Spans by exurb1a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpHyLG-sc4g&t=191s I think I will try the suggestions in this video from now on, once I create a schedule and come back and update this thread, telling how it went. You're all welcome to join me, though I do realise not all of us have the luxury of just simple unplugging the internet and others may not find it that much of a hindrance in their lives. But as for me, I feel like a change. My online life is that of my offline, disappointing and unfulfilling. I can't even play video games with out rushing through dialogue and quests anymore (Speaking of which check out the Bonus video). So, enough about silly ol' me:- What are your feelings on internet addiction? What did you think of the video(s)? Any tips or experiences with Internet addiction you'd like to share? I asked for a discussion about the addiction, not a headcount of the inept introverts that populate the website. I am going to give you a pass on it though because the layout of the thread was abit dense and hard to follow also that I am self aware enough to know when I am coming off as a dick. But even still:- Please read the thread or TL;DR (situated at the top of Thread). There was a reason I posted this in Serious Talk. Thank you.

Well it's something. I hold on hope to improving my current situation and breaking free from the shackles of online entertainment and instant gratification by practicing the video's advice.

Internet addiction is kinda different. It depends on what are you looking at on the internet. People who usually just check FB and other social medias usually are scared to miss out on sth or do feel the need to know anything even it is just some drama, rumours etc Gaming addiction hits other psychological points I guess. It´s more about diving into a world or challenge with other people (E-sports). If someone is addicted the to challenging aspect of a game it´s more about being better than everyone else. In case of casual games I guess it has to do sth with entertainment and escaping the real world

Ah yeah good point, I only mentioned addiction to gaming on side because I have experienced it before. To be honest I haven't adequately compare the two enough or given it much thought, looking back on things my Internet addiction and Gaming addiction has become all blurred together to notice the divergent nuisances between the two. Thanks.
