Oh I agree. All Im saying is that if that's the power it commands then the economy will reflect it. Better that than people not being able to get jobs as employers literally cannot afford to hire them.
When it comes to the free market, certain practices need to be regulated but generally I prefer it to be a FREE market. Freedom, say it with me. I know you want to.

I'd suggest lowering it over time and testing the waters. If I'm wrong and the economy does not improve then we reign it back in like a surgeon.

This is what makes it really tricky to say definitively whether regulation or deregulation really would be more beneficial. I would propose a structure that would give a great deal of leeway to businesses if they fall within certain parameters and punish them heavily if they are not in those parameters.
I don't have any real details / policy but the premise would be "if the prosperity doesn't trickle down on its own we'll make it trickle down" and impose / grow a culture that businesses should be more socially responsible and not entirely profit driven.

Well that comes with its own risks. Fundamentally should a business be required to take a moral stance as long as they maintain ethical business practices? I'd say not. If I ever owned my own business then I'd certainly take issue with any government trying to dictate my social responsibility. Cruel as it may sound if my only goal is to make money, then I have every right to be a greedy prick provided I am not breaking the law.

Freedom? I've never blurted that out or nothing >.>
For awhile in our history our economy wasn't very regulated but things were so poor for the average person that massive amounts of regulation were needed. I personally think if the big(gest) corporations would invest in their employees (In my head mostly retail and fast food places - places who have a lot of people on the payroll) and make everyone who wants it full time our economy would grow. Sure these places would take a hit up front but some investments take time to deliver - once more people have more money .... we people like to spend our disposable income. Since the way Capitalism works money needs to be spent somehow and it starts a cycle....
Business spends on labor to employees
employees as consumers spend at businesses
businesses can spend more (either in the form of raises, infrastructure etc) ... lather rinse repeat

And technically I could donate all my extra earnings to charity. I'm not going to do that but I could. I just don't see trying to force morality as a feasible solution.

The social responsibility is a tougher one for me since I don't believe its practical to have it be in a binding way legally (let alone what it would be more specifically and how far that goes).
I was just meaning that to your employees you'd be responsible for paying them a bare minimum liveable wage / hours (not the peanuts many in retail and fast food suffer though) - not that a business would have to be "pro this" or "anti that" or humanitarian leaders ... nothing that grand.... only that they feel some sense of responsibility to truly take care of those below them
I'd much rather see my "investment" strategy idea play out before other more binding and serious actions

In that case lets both write to our government and let our voices be heard. You might change the world

The lobbyists and big moneyed interests drown us the fuck out - that is blatantly obvious. The only way we could realistically break this structure at this point is if there is an utterly massive revolt (peaceful or violent).
We would either have to gather in droves and create such a whirlwind of "if you don't fix this problem you sure as hell won't be reelected" and "we aren't going to take this anymore quietly" (doing so peacefully and exercising 1A right of peaceful assembly and airing of grievances) ... or.....
An unfortunate bloody second civil war type of deal where instead of North v South its ... Middle class v Wealthy elites or something else where the lobbyists voices are drowned out by the sheer shitstorm though the land.
Again if I were president one of the first things I would do is ban **all** lobbying and lobbyist influence and practice (yes including the NRA-ILA) by executive order (I'd invoke the necessary and proper clause if I had too - that making sure the voices of everyday Americans is not drowned out by elites necessary and proper for a civil America where every person has a chance to be heard and concerns addressed)
