Dates are the WORST

@Juveh & Lenny: It actually depends on where you're from. Around here, most of the girls expect the guy to initiate as well, but in places where the gender ratio is more female than male, the dating scene can be more competitive for girls than for guys, meaning that you may notice girls trying a bit harder, and guys are the ones like "Yup." -check facebook- I usually hold someone's phone hostage if it gets to be a problem. Of course they have mine as well, but any time they look at mine, I look at their phone. Its a more playful way to acknowledge the issue, I think. Although looking at the cellphone in company of friends or on a date is bad form, it is a compulsion many people have and don't realize it. Something like looking at your watch every half a minute. One of the many reasons I don't have a smart phone. XD @ Cero: Could be many of the problems listed before, though I've noticed this in people who have actual interest in me as well. The actual problem, I think, stems from the fact that humans today in "1st world" countries (Kinda hate that term, but I digress) are overloaded with more information on a daily process than their brains can properly process. Going along with that cellphone thing I just mentioned, people have a compulsion to check a constantly changing stream of information, and they don't take breaks from it. So that kinda leads to a brain overload, which in combination with being sleep deprived and having a poor diet, creates a state of mind that kinda resembles zombification. This is why meditation does wonders for the modern mind. Honestly though, you don't even have to go that far. Just go somewhere quiet, put a pillow over your eyes to block off light, and just kinda lay there and let your mind wander. Don't control the thoughts, just let your thoughts sort themselves out.

The girl:guy ratio is higher? Girls fight for guys?! Where is this magical place?!

Well for one, not the bar. XD Take a cooking or a dancing class.

um.. I major in Pastry Arts... which is in a culinary building. It doesn't happen here. Oh. We still outnumber girls about 60/40

Girls need to fight for guys and just go for it. Make the effort and put the work in and you will get good stuff in return. Guys shouldn't be expected to do all the work.

@Chocobo: Not interested. I dated 3 girls like that, unfortunately, none of which seemed to know what an actual relationship is like, and ended up being quite awkward.
