Horror movies

I'm interested in finding new horror movies to watch. But I'm not keen on lots of modern horror which rely too much on jump scares and CG special effects. As well as just rehashing the same old afraid of the dark or psycho killer or demon/ghost themes. A movie can be scary with just atmosphere and weirdness and lots of suggestive hints like Session 9: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_9 The big issue with most horror films is that they are so overdone and unrealistic that they actually feel safe in a way. Some horror movies have tried to play more on real people doing horrible things (more suspense than horror) like 8mm; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8mm_(film) But I feel that movie was incredibly naïve and limited. Snuff films aren't some legendary thing that might exist somewhere. They are dime a dozen. But most filmmakers won't really touch that subject with a ten foot pole. Or the best they will do is Hostel: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostel_(2005_film) Or the best realistic and disturbing I've seen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Girl_Next_Door_(2007_film) Which shows how easily kids can be turned into sadists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_Likens I'm not looking for safe horror, I'm looking for disturbing horror. Some indie films do better than mainstream. V/H/S/ was ok but the whole found footage theme is now overdone. A Serbian Film did a few things well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Serbian_Film But really ended up just being a mess of random shock scenes without much of a cohesive story.
