Reasonable Age Of Consent

In HS back east someone I knew was 18 and dated a 16 year old and the parents caught them having sex. Even though the age of consent is 16 parents/guardians are legally responsible for their actions and have overriding power of consent until 18. He got probation for statutory rape and nearly added to the sex offender registry. I moved away not long after but I imagine he had a hard life after that with that on his record. The push for 18 being the age of consent in the USA gained momentum starting around the early 90s when the invention of the internet brought child porn to the attention of the general public. It was all over the net in the early days along with bestiality and everything else. They figured that raising the age of consent would stop child porn but these days it's mostly kids putting themselves and each other on the internet and lawmakers are still trying to figure out how to deal with it. In my opinion, I feel the absolute minimum age should be 16 at the very least. I think going any lower than that is REALLY pushing it. Hell it's 13 in Japan so it's not surprising how many girls lose their virginity before they reach high school - it just seems WAY too young if you ask me. Maybe I'm biased for saying 16 since I've lived in the UK my entire life but I genuinely feel that should be the absolute minimum.

@Infernal, the age of consent doesn't really effect the age at which people lose their virginity. People fuck whenever they feel ready. Most girls I know lost their virginity way under the local age of consent, usually to older guys too. Nobody really cares about the age of consent, only whether they are open or discreet about it.
