Maybe Im just strange. I write, even when nobody reads it, or when people give some really harsh criticism on Wattpad (Yes, Wattpad.) I just like to write, to create a story and build a world, and let out all of my weeb fantasies. Its in the imaginative way I like to write it when I think of it, and the way it feels to just start liking your own story too. I can't give a solid opinion, of course. I've been writing for a while, but Im not exactly a pro that can write a really long Maze Trials book or something. I just write. I just do. I don't know my motivation. I just write it.

If you're afraid of being censored for writing, you're doing it wrong. Writing is an art, whether many read it or only you do. Writing is not something where you should feel like you need to censor yourself, lest you offend. When I write, it's usually just me, myself and I that ever read it. However, when I do let other's in, it's to gain a different perspective. Without other's reading your stuff, it kind of makes it hard to grow. You need criticism and praise. But, I suppose that all depends on why you write.

If it's something you want to do, really really really want to do, you better work your ass off until it is done. If you kinda want it, it will never be done. From what I understand, you want to do this as a profession. Don't see it like that. See it as a hobby, that you want to do 24/7 if that would be possible. I just started writing too after a very long break. At first, no word came out and I stared at an empty screen for some time, only to close it down and went to do something else: ''Another time.'' But that started eating at me, since I have/had a story in me that NEEDED to go out on paper/computer. So I started. Halfway the first chapter, I was like: no, this is not good enough. So I started thinking and talking to myself and was like: Okay, what happened, what is going to happen and what is he/she/they feeling right now ? Not what I think is best if that happened or if they felt like that, but what ''actually'' happened. This way of thinking seems to help me a lot. Don't know if this helps you in any way, but I wanted to share my story of my story.

I appreciate your response Jason. Usually when I think I can't focus on my own stories I pick up one of my fanfics, but I lost focus on those too. I am, in fact, going to start re-reading one now while I stew over my story (at least, the one I planned to focus on first) and aim to start on the preface tomorrow on my day off.

@Manga_bird and JackTechno And anyone who has trouble writing… I have read all the posts here; I understand where you are coming from Manga_bird. I started to write in 2004 fanfiction and I was poor at it but I enjoyed the stories of my own creation. For many years I stopped writing everything but poetry. Once I had someone in my family read one of them and said I needed professional medical help do to the fact that most of my poetry is dark in some ways. I didn’t believe that I needed that so I ignored it and kept writing. I also have Roleplayed for years on Instant Messenger and Without realizing it, I was still writing through that even if I wasn’t writing stories. I had a friend that I meet last year, He encouraged me to start writing again. I looked over my fanfiction and saw that I wasn’t as good at writing back then as I am now. I have meet a few people that have encouraged me to continue writing. Because of the people that have encouraging me I have kept an open mind on my writing. Manga_bird, I understand your dislike for rewriting but understand I do dislike it as well but sometimes it is a requirement for writing. I don’t think any form of writing is good on the first time. I have rewritten many of my own things months or years later after I have written something. Also I greatly fear rejection but I have come to believe that many people have their own view of things. Some people might greatly dislike your work but believe me somewhere there could be someone out there that greatly enjoys your stories. I have allowed two friends to read one of my stories that I have completed the most on. One has an English degree and my other friend doesn’t have any English beside basic knowledge. They both greatly enjoyed my story. The one with an English degree edited the paper as I am not good at grammar much. She put a personal comment at the end of the paper “This is a really good story and I enjoyed reading it! I ‘d love to read more of it if you want to show it to me!” That is her words, word for word. This has encouraged me to not give up on my writing. I have also met a new friend a few months ago that has inspired me deeply. For the first time in years I was reminded of myself that I had long forgotten. Because of my friend I have found parts of myself that I believed to be lost and long gone. Sorry for getting off topic, anyway, I believe finding the right key to inspire you and the key to encourage you to write so you can bring the characters you have long dreamed of writing to life. It isn’t always easy to have someone comment on your writing but I believe it can give you new insight on your writing if you have positive comments. Sadly, bad comments are part of it as well but know that your writing is your own no matter who reads it. If people dislike it then that is their own problem as well as they don’t need to read it if they honestly don’t like it. If you give yourself the courage to write and take hold of the fear that you have. I believe you can find that even in this world there is a place that your writing will be greatly enjoyed. Trust in yourself and your writing as well as your characters to bring to life this story that you envision for them. The fear of rejection might hold you back but understand there is many people out there that know the same fear as you do. I believe every writer has to face the fear that you feel. @JackTechno, you made some good points about just start writing. I have found that just sitting with a pen and paper somewhere out of the way. Like a corner or bathroom, somewhere nothing else but your mind and the paper you hold. I find my ideas come at the strangest times. I find that my ideas come when I am about sleep or just listening to music. Even when I am at work just doing things at work. I think of an idea and have small memo pad to write in at work. I write down just words or ideas with no thought to how they sound at the moment. Even for the stories I am writing I have a notebook I just write all over in about different things. No title or main point. Just writing without any reason. I find I get my best ideas that way. I always carry a notepad or memo pad with me to write when ideas come. It might not even be something big but like a title or character name. It always helps to have something to write in for me. Sorry for the long post, Manga_bird and JackTechno but I hope this has helped you in some way with writing.

yeah writing is awesome but i mean just write stories for yourself an adventure you d want to see or a bunch of characters coming together in a way youd love. If other people dont see it that doesnt mean the characters die without fulfilled purpose, you still give them that life and experience all kinds of things with them just by reading it yourself. If other people like it great, but nothing creative is ever succesful if you start with the attitude of im doing this for other people unless its professionally produced like popular music
