College Major

azumakazuma
Creative writing can be a tough job path. You may need to bite the bullet and write for a business or website. For the business writer side of things, I can see that it may be better to have strong knowledge or accreditation on the subject you are writing about. Oh, but don't forget that game companies are often looking for creative writers to help with character design and backstories. I went to College for Computers and security. Although I wasn't able to land a decent job for 2 years due to inexperience, I did find one. I've been with my current company for 3 years now and I feel like I can do anything and get a good job wherever I want.

@Arc has the right idea. I'm all for "following yuor drams lol", but make sure that you can make at least some money off of it. Unless you like that starving artist type of lifestyle. I think its a bit of a false dichotomy, having to pick between something you love and something that makes money. Half of the battle is being creative and learning to monetize what you love to do. If you don't want to be creative, then you have to bite the bullet and get a boring desk job you don't like, but at least it pays. Delegate writing to your weekends/time off.

A communications degree is a good idea. I have friends that have that degree and it pays really well but you have to build your resume a bit for big paying jobs. Computer science is a good degree but if your struggling with your gpa might want to wait a while or take a different path. If you have time to build your gpa then do it while you can. I srewed up my first two years so most of my time was spent rebuilding my gpa. I like to stick to the medical feild degrees because their paying jobs and an interest of mine. But it is in no way easy -_-. Depends on what you take I suppose.

Going off of what Azukazuma said: Yes, there are people in game design looking for creative writers. However, they only look for people with years and years of experience writing for games (they mainly do art direction or programming), or they hire people who have commercialized screenplays or films. Other than that, after all my years of casually looking not one person is looking for a creative writer. They all want artists or skilled programmers. Game design industry is hell. Avoid it like the plague.

I've seen many places that accept newcomers :P Doesn't matter what other people tell you to do < (whoever is reading this) if you want a degree in your chosen field just do it. If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress. http://media.giphy.com/media/cMCjlR7pOcf3G/giphy.gif

@Arc, thanks, I thought I might have a chance with the gaming industry if I took the English degree but it doesn't seem like that's the case from what you said. I thought I'd do some damage repair with my gpa for the next year too but since Computer science is competitive, as in they select a certain amount of people each semester, I'm worried I might still not be accepted in the program and might have to wait another semester but by then I'd be halfway through senior year. I can take lower level computer science classes without being in the program and I have and found I like them though it is difficult. @Assam, thanks for the advice too :), but I'm still not sure what I want to major in since I don't have that many interests and kinda think all the other majors are boring or I wouldn't like doing work for them (no offense to those who are already taking them). I'm not outdoorsy, and I hate gore (except I can watch sit through things like Attack on Titan and Future diary for some reason), which limits the major's I could do such as biology and becoming a doctor. I'm also not that interested in research as a job and I don't really have an interest in history.

Microbiology may be a thought. Is it still gore if you are analyzing blood samples with a microscope?
thecomingdarkness777
@Kazuma, not really, but only when there is a lot of blood like buckets of it.I can watch action movies where peple get stabbed of shot but anything I guess like them getting their arm chopped off and speewing blood everywhere is too much :S
azumakazuma
My point was that you can be in the medical field without dealing with gore. Hemitology, radiology, microbiology. Or you could go a different route by going for a psychology degree. It's a good paying field. Also you get the perc of having a greater understanding of how people think and cause to events in life. This understanding could be a good tool if you still wanted to get into creative writing later on.
