ok so I'm new to this site and the box you are supposed to click on to select the person you want to send a message doesn't work. I'm getting the impression that it is dependent on having a friends list to choose from. Is this the case or what?

Messaging works fine for me on Yandex :P
maybe try cleaning your browser cookies and refresh :)

ok so I found out my answer. It looks like you have to be friends with someone before you can send a message.
