That's a tough one, depends on what you mean by "idea", and if you're talking about the western game industry instead of the Japanese game industry. I've had various ideas in the past for first person shooters, platformers, and other genres. Maybe take a game like Yandere Simulator and mix it with something like Mirror's Edge? Or likewise? A game concept alone isn't what makes the game good, but the story is also very important(if there is one). Or perhaps mix a visual novel with an FPS, never seen that before. Or if you want something in 2D perhaps try and make a build platformer like Terraria except throw your ideas into it. Honestly I think there is way way waaaay too many RPGS in the world right now that are kind of bland IMO thanks to programs like RPG maker, people rarely seem to write them from scratch anymore, which is part of the challenge in game development. I'm a programmer myself who works in an IT environment, more or less write games, software and websites as a hobby. I'm working on an RPG project called Project 7, and a few other 2D games, which are written from scratch in C++. Progress isn't that far though.

I would agree that there may be too many RPGs that have flooded the market, however, you can never have enough quality RPGs - I am a sucker for anything with a great written narrative. So if you can find a way to tweak a story to create a shocking revelation then go for it. Bioshock was a one time experience for me - That story and surprise twist was perfect.

I could use a programmer for my visual novel down the line, when I get into special menu features and such.

Have you considered making a visual novel? The tools available make it much easier to focus less on the technical details and more on expressing your concept.
