... Isn't 90% of 'nightcore' just anime intros sped up 25%? :/ At least that's what my experience with it has been.

Hardly. I have 153 songs on my Nightcore playlist, and only 1 of them is an actual anime song. Having a sped up beat is one of the hallmarks of nightcore songs, as well as sometimes having higher pitched vocals and added techno sounds.
