What should I be mentally prepared for?
Where in your opinion is the best places to eat?
I am open to any other ideas or opinions on what to do or find/avoid there.

Buy a gun there while you can, they're a hassle to get in CA and a lot more pricy.
Also brace for some pain in the butt car regulations.

California is currently facing a big drought. You should do some research on that before making the move.

There's actually in and out in Texas believe it or not, mostly in Dallas but there's 2 in Austin. As someone who has lived in both states, I'd say be prepared for it to get pretty chilly in winter. Also be prepared to pay a lot in terms of everyday expenses and in taxes. Everything from real estate, gas, and even groceries are more expensive than in Texas, across the board. And they charge income tax which sucks. Pros, the food scene is better and the summers are so nice in comparison. Honestly, I'd move back but I really don't think I'd last in a place where I'd have to make 200% more than I do now to afford the same lifestyle :/

Thanks for the info -
I have been in and around S.A. and Corpus -
I rarely went to any other cities so I had no idea about in and out being here.
Yea summer sucks here.
I'm moving with a few roommates to make the cost of living adjustable.
