What is the 1st anime you watched that turned you into an Otaku??

leoghain
As a kid in elementary school, I can remember watching a couple of shows that were anime. Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, and probably some others shown on Toonami. I got turned off to Pokemon and Dragon Ball because everyone was into it and I didn't feel like I could ever escape it. It felt very faddish and superficial, so I was turned off to anime for about two years. Then I learned of a movie called Vampire Hunter D which, according to certain sites, was influential on the Castlevania games. I bought it and loved it. I still wasn't really into anime at that point, but I didn't have a loathing toward it. Fast forward to the summer going into my junior year of high school. I watched Akira for the first time and I was floored. For the next two or three months I watched it once a week. I gradually started getting into some other movies as I met like-minded kids in school. Now I love the medium. I should add as a side note that I ended up getting back into Dragon Ball in my early 20s. Better late than never.
