Your Political Philosophy

darkhorse
For those who know me, you are aware I am a practicing Catholic (of the Byzantine tradition, though I was raised in the Latin rite). But many of you do not know my political beliefs. I was hoping of starting a serious conversation(though I know it will either be ignored or derailed) about political beliefs. It's not so much about parties or wide scale ideologies, it's more about what you personally believe, on multiple issues. I shall begin- I personally believe in a strong local government both politically and economically. I believe in supporting the local arts, education, being active in town meetings (which is the only real democracy in the world), or at least voting locally. By buying locally made products or products made by locals when you travel (instead of large companies), you are helping people much more than putting money in the hands of the rich. But oddly enough, while I believe in free trade, open immigration, and local democracy, I am not a total liberal, nor am I a conservative. I am a moderate- a strong moderate. I call out our leaders and political systems as I see them.

I was really surprised to see there were no active threads on politics or religion. Maybe that's why the people here seem so nice, lol.

I identify with the Darkhorse party (DHP) by and large. But I personally see the need for a strong federal government in terms of regulation. With out it, megacorporations get away with pretty heinous things till it all goes sideways.

@Jinsei that sounds great in theoretical terms, but corporations dominate US politics, which keep departments like the FDA for example weak. We need a government where corporations and large money donations do not fuel elections.

@LaughingMan actually, most locally made products are superior than ones from larger companies. Companies keep the prices cheap and the surplus high. But take my 3 loves- coffee, tea, and chocolate. A local coffee company has a better quality product- they really do taste better. But they buy straight from the farmers and make them in a local roasting location. Now, it is more expensive to produce, but it's a higher quality and free of slave labor. And whether us Westerners want to believe it or not, our "iconic companies" often use slave labor (or at the very least, extremely low paid workers with horrible conditions). I have documentation on my blog

Yeah, I fully understand that it's a government for and of the Target/Walmart. Ideally I feel that corporations should be banned from making donations or sticking their noses in politics at all. And the penalties should be pretty darn severe. Or we can appoint Genghis Khan to head the FDA.
