Oh, you won't like my opinion of the anime then hehe! I respect your perception of said show, yet I feel the overall execution was not anywhere as beautifully crafted. The characters from Lucy to Kouta just seemed to be painted as objects to have pure misery thrown at. I could get behind an objective view of what it means to suffer and overcome, but Lucy never grows as a person. At best she kills for a slightly better cause than being angery with the world. Most would point to the experiments being done to her plus the supposed tragic backstory as justification for slaughtering Kouta's parents, but I feel the death of his parents by her hand suggests another theory I had about Lucy. That theory being she suffers from a form of sociopathic schizophrenia. This meaning it was very possible she hallucinated the children at the orphanage all being overly destructive or the dog dying by them. My opinion given that the story is told mainly from her point of view with little outside confirmation of these facts. My reasoning being she may be more the villain than victim. Yes the military are evil too and the various people shown are all bad actors. However that is the problem with the narrative. It isn't asking an objective question it is just insisting on one to sympathize with the main character's ruthless abandon as a poor isolated soul with no room for rebuke or fair criticism. This is why I prefer a show like Death Parade more because it can explore the idea of what it means to be human with flaws without presenting one sided scenarios that can't be reasoned with rationally. It provides insight to the worst and best people can offer in a much more clear setting. As for the show's action scenes I much rather watch Hellsing Ultimate or even something slightly in the same vein like Baccano! I mean Ladd in that train...oh man, brutal! https://media1.tenor.com/images/96dfe535df449de8d7691c07b7d5317f/tenor.gif That said I think Elfen Lied had a clever idea with an admirably creative influence. Just the show failed to make itself balanced enough for me to have a reaction that was favorable to its premise. As you said the music was perfect! So I give it a 1 for 1 hell of an opening hahaha!
