adding people and not talking to them

I'll start conversation with anyone but I must not be the only one engaging in conversation. Some people just aren't talkative whether if its shyness or they just don't wanna talk at the moment and I obviously get that. Most of the time, if I'm asking questions and the person is responding with few word answers and not engaging, I'll politely end the conversation and maybe try again some other time. My number one pet peeve is if you respond with one word answers and that's it. I find that extremely rude and I will not respond back. The guys here cannot be submissive and wait for women to start conversations with them because I believe most of the girls here are shy and won't start conversation. Obviously not the case with all but maybe a majority. Anybody else have thoughts on this?

I find that having friends on here is a bit of a self-esteem boost; I mean, if they added me, it means that they have some sort of interest in talking to me, right? @BasedSempai Regarding the girls on here- not sure about everyone else, but if a person I add accepts my friend request, I take it as a green light to send them a 'hello' message. If I accept someone's request, I think it's their responsibility to make the first move. I'd never be brave enough to initiate conversation on a public wall though.
