Swimming pools I think would be a higher concern than bathrooms, since it does require some body exposure... I think it'd be common sense for an MTF who has not had any bottom surgery to come already dressed, and in something that does not show a bulge, like loose swim pants and a bikini top.
For FTMs, it can be tricky... Some places do have laws allowing women to be topless, where FTMs can be topless, but it does not prevent a service or private property from kicking out a topless FTM... I think that most would wear a shirt for swimming, until they are able to "pass"(after top surgery), though.

My point is if they can fool anybody then well you are doing it right but if you haven't reach that stage yet then there's a problem

Hmmm, now I am wondering if anyone has been in this type of situation? Because, I have come across some transgendered people in my life and never have I been in a situation where they were making me uncomfortable. Nor have I noticed anyone else being uncomfortable because of something they were doing.

mikorin, I doubt most have. Transgenders are a minority and honestly even in an accepting society, they'd still be in the minority. Most are fine with who they are as far as sex is concerned. The few who ive run across in my life were just as normal as anyone else, excluding wanting to look like and associate as the opposite sex. Most go off of biassed and bigoted fears, which is kind of a natural reaction to something different than one is used to as normal.

I think the reaction depends on the person. I've never encountered any situation like this, but I can think of a somewhat related example. I was sitting in a library, and I noticed a female staff member knocking on the male bathroom door. I quickly realized she was checking to see if anyone was in there before going in to clean it. Some other guy started yelling at her and telling her that she's not supposed to go in there, etc. He was fairly aggressive about it too. I bet after this incident, she hesitated before going in to clean the male bathrooms. All it takes is one incident to create fear, anger, and mistrust.

The only Trans person I have ever felt uncomfortable around was a random guy on the street in downtown San Francisco... and I've seen more disturbing things with non-LGBT people.
In fact I don't even know if this person really was LGBT or just crazy.
They looked/acted crazy to me, just walking in front of cars and spitting on the ground and making a weird yell sound to nobody in particular.
Other than that, I've only seen multiple crazy old men(a child molester and multiple hobos), and my great grandma. Oh and the ex who stalked me.
My great grandma isn't mean to me anymore, though.

It's just a damn sign on a door that designates persons to use that facility. But honestly, male or female needs to use the washroom, does it matter which one, since people visit friends and family, they all use the same toilet. If I have to pee, I don't care about what damn sign is on the door.

slight out of topic.
crazy Florida law. it's illegal for a man to be seen in public wearing a strapless dress gown. Not that many cops enforce it but it's officially on the books. quite commonly broken on south beach :P
