What do you think of Clannad, the anime?
Have you watched Clannad-After Story? What were your thoughts?
Personally, any anime that can make me cry at all.. is usually one that makes it into my top favorites. And Clannad made me cry my eyes out.. I don't think I cried this hard since Saikano. Or Air. But I was so confused with Air, so, mostly Saikano. It's just so sad.. I love it so much, but I hate it.. And I'm on the 19th or 20th episode of the After Story and am afraid of finishing it... I don't want to cry any more. I don't think it's healthy D:
XD
Tell me what you think..

Air.... was interesting. I watched it in one night at a friends and we were both WTFing by the end, but still felt sad.
But Clannad, the first season is pretty good, but pretty standard I think. It wasn't until after story that I felt really attatched to it, and by the end of that I was thinking "What...? Why would you be so mean to him... this is terrible... Oh ok all good now. Just going to go watch Kanon and feel better now."
Personally I liked the series more than the movie... and I would go on to say why but I don't want to spoil anything.
If you liked those btw, check out Kanon by the same studio, the newer version anyways.
Also, Angel Beats if you really like to get emotionally involved with the characters. :D. Such amazing OST's and shows from Key (not really into their games but the shows that come out of there are really good)

Clannad is one of my favorite anime~ I'm not ashamed to say that it made me cry buckets. (Not as much as Nana though.)
Air's biggest problem was that it was too condensed. It needed more episodes to properly cover everything.

Clannad and After Story (which I basically consider to be the same anime) is probably my all-time favorite, if not, then tied with something else. I will admit that I cried my eyes out as well. The ending to After Story is REALLY good. I don't want to give any spoilers, though. You will cry more, but trust me, ITS WORTH IT!
I agree with atticuselias that the series is better than the movie, but the movie is also very good in its own respect (kind like the way that the Eureka Seven movie is good, but its not really like the associated TV series).

@Normandy - As someone who was been a Key fan since Planetarian, I have to ask: What do you mean 'condensed', it was the perfect length considering the game isn't terribly long itself. The movie however I understand.
As for Clannad, the show was perfect. Nice length, the voice acting was good, and the direction was impeccable, as expected from KyoAni. My only complaint of course was in later episodes we saw an eventual decline in animation quality that would contribute to the lackluster visuals in Haruhi S2.

Clannad is quite a powerful show, and has real heartwrenching moments, as the characters feel kinda real from the start. After Story is like getting bludgeoned over the head with a physical representation of depression.
I like the contrast of sweet and pretty characters/design style and a proper romantic style to the story, yet the sense of negativity throughout is so overwhelming, making it a truely bittersweet story that no american or english teen dramas seem to reach.
Kanon is also equally as good. Air, took me way too long to get into the characters.

I love Clannad! It is one of my most favorite animes of all time. Literally, just thinking about it makes me start to tear up. The heartbreaking story, the sad pasts of the characters, and the innocent loves that comes to be and is then just torn apart. This was the first anime where I was a wreck for awhile after I finished it. I just couldn't stop crying. There are only a few other animes that made me cry hard, but Clannad tops them all. I would totally watch Angel Beats, Air, and Kanon if you haven't already. Oh, before I go, never hold in your tears. Never be afraid or think that it is unheathly to cry. It shows that you are human and have a heart.

Clannad is the first best anime I ever seen. I didn't think much of it. It was on my list for a long time. I looked at it and skipped over it. Didn't think much of it. Then said what the hey, 1st episode grabbed my attention and was glued to the whole story. It got to me to. It was great.
