A song warning about the troubles that a brothel can cause... An American folk song about a possible real place, also possibly having even older beginnings from a 16th century English song called "the unfortunate rake" which was a song about a man who caught syphilis in a house of ill repute.

My brother spent a fair amount of time in Mexico for that reason while running away from our father at one point, so it's possible that's where he came to appreciate that melody, haha!
