"Celibacy syndrome is the term invented by Japanese media to describe the national trend of young people retreating from interpersonal relationships and sex. According to a 2011 survey conducted by the Japanese National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, 61 percent of unmarried men and 49 percent of unmarried women aged 18-34 were not in any kind of romantic relationship at all. A related survey by the Japan Family Planning Association (JFPA) found that 45 percent of women aged 16-24 “were not interested in or despised sexual contact [with others]”."

The switch in traditional gender roles is mostly to blame for this problem. Many guys feel intimidated by career-driven women and sometimes they feel it is too much effort to put into a romantic relationship. It also doesn't help the situation when most of society is too caught up in materialism and status.

That's such a logically fallacious theory that I don't even know where to begin...
Like really? We're experiencing less romantic relationships and sexual encounters because guys are intimidated by successful women? Idk if troll or legit.

Or maybe because there are way easier ways for people to get pleasure now with way less bullshit.
Shit and I don't even do anything like that.

Sure there is, but masturbation is never as good as sex can be (under the right circumstances), but there is a lot more issues too that are shoved in our faces more from the internet as well (causing more stress issues). I also think that because of the massive increase in online socialization and access to porn of every variety, that young people are only learning unhealthy ways to use sex (from an increasingly younger age). But are essentially retarded in their ability to emotionally connect with the opposite sex. It's turning into a dichotomy between people who are only seeking sex for sexual gratification (but close themselves off emotionally) and people who are looking for romantic connections but aren't that interested in sex or are actually turned off by the portrayal of sex as a dirty, emotionless, and degrading act that is displayed in most porn and picked up on my most young males who expect real sex to be like that. We don't have a good healthy sense of balance.

I think it is because of the internet.
Neko is spot on pretty much is what is going on. The fact there isn't a good healthy sense of balance. I'm concerned for the next generation and the ones after that.

People have lost many social skills because of the Internet, but it can also be a way for people to refine some of those skills. It depends on how you use it.

I think it's more than just the internet. It's a combination of factors, but yes.
