On one hand, most people probably don't know the first thing about Africa. But on the plus side, that means they might automatically assume you're American if you're black as that's one of the known distinguishing factors for them between Americans and Europeans (modern black guys in anime tend to be American), and American stuff is popular. But I guess that's not unique to them, education has drilled the term "African-American" into my head so much that I use it even when I'm clearly not talking about someone from the US. Hey that's the case in this thread's title too! It might be a little different for black girls though, or especially biracial. Darker skinned girls tend to be a very popular aesthetic anime to the point of being a common fetish. For example, the Egyptian goddess Bastet is one of the most beloved characters in Puzzle and Dragons (with the most porn). http://konachan.com/image/4e886eeca0792a49167513972bd258f3/Konachan.com%20-%20182480%20animal_ears%20barefoot%20bastet_%28p%26d%29%20catgirl%20fang%20puzzle_%26_dragons%20tail.jpg

Honestly I don't think discrimination against foreigners is really that bad. I have a few penpals and from what I know they see African American men as cool/athletic XD. My brother lived there collectively for about 2 years and had no problem, other than people telling him he looked like Obama (which he doesn't XD). I'm not a guy but I went there for spring break and honestly, everyone was pretty nice to me. However I really only went to cities/touristy areas, I didn't go to any inaka like places so I'm not sure how you would get treated in the country side. My best advice would be to learn enough japanese to get by or in my case, go with someone who speaks it because that would be the best way to build connections with people. Even in Tokyo not that many people spoke English ^__^;;

For speaking little to no english you would be suprised how teenagers act over in italy, you would never think they came from there. I mean they dress similar and act similar and even watch american movies and play american video games (just in italian.)
