Why does Japan censor Gore and even blood.

Not sure why but lately Anime bloodshed has been heavily censored from show like HunterXHunter to Bleach and even Tokyo ghoul. Why is that? And in this day and age is it necessary?

True but it's not always shonen sometimes it's seinen which is weird. Though often at times censorship can kill the purpose of certain scenes.

Yeah, rurouni kenshin is chock full of scenes that were censored. Theres a scene where akamatsu got his head chopped off and it cut away, and his blood was lime green!

I mean it still not as bad as 4kids censorship but I mean really. Sometimes I think the animators or even directors get pissed off cause they can't deliver the creator true message. Like Hiyori from bleach was suppose to be cut in half instead she gets a sword through the stomach.
