To all MMO players....

Both. It all started with something in EQ we called "training", if you know what that is kudos. Then with the glorious release of WoW I joined the first and only central server at the time, Sargeras, which was of course PVP so I grew up with this concept of if you can target it then kill it. Can't tell you how many times large scale fights broke out in STV over ganking lowbies trying to level.

If I wanted PvP in my mmo, id play crap like halo or COD. Pvp in an mmo is like giving people an excuse to not understand the story, not care about the lore, and just mindlessly and senselessly kill random lowbies who just to level up. Its retarded and shouldn't be a part of an mmo.

PVP is perfectly fine. WPVP can be a problem if you don't have friends or guildies or whatever to back you up when you need it but that's what PVE servers are for. Without PVP what kind of competition is there? You can race for world firsts in raid tiers but once that's over what is there to do. That's the innate problem with MMO's is once you "beat the game" there's nothing to do but gear up, level alts, do dailies, farm gold or mats, all the BORING stuff. Not to mention it's because of PVP that Blizzard has such a long standing relationship with esports. If you just want to battle NPC's go play an RPG or a simulated MMO RPG like .hack

A lot of newer MMOs are balancing pvp by restricting it to certain zones and also upleveling people in those pvp zones. You still have an advantage if you are a max lvl character in the pvp zones though. This gets rid of the ganking newbies in low level zones. Plus as Metronome mentioned, sometimes they have pvp servers and pve servers. Honestly, I never thought I would like pvp, but my guildies got me to go with them in guildwars two and we ran around flipping camps for a while and then defended a tower vs. like 25 people using siege weapons.

Except thats where your wrong. Final fantasy 11s been out longer than blizzard, and while not as big as wow is, has a rather strong loggerhead, even after 14s release. Competition for world firsts? Big deal. Its just another way for moronic children to boast their epeen and act like their shit dont stink. Wow takes very little effort outside of mashing the same 4 buttons at different intervals. A game that requires thought is much more enjoyable than senselessly beating on other players. If you have fun doing that stuff, more power to you. Everybody is entitled to theor own likes. I, for one, find pvp an unessacery addition and a cheap way to keep players playing without having to actually put out GOOD content, storywise.

Story huh? If we are talking story what is FF11's? Warcraft lore is deep and rich in comparison with many novels and interactive elements within encounters so even if you don't read quest text you aren't just mindlessly trudging along. You can bash PVP all you want but facts don't lie. Not only is WoW bigger and for good reason but the biggest game in the world right now is based around 5v5 PVP, even if it is a different genre. Also like I said esports is a big deal you are bound to get left behind if you don't have some kind of PVP aspect and tournaments.

I can go into the lore of xi if you like, but it would be pages long, and im not going to argue a moot point. You like pvp, good for you. I find it incredibly stupid and unessacery. You seem to have this hard on for wow, which is fine, but all youre really doing is saying wow is great because pvp. Awesome. If you play a game to beat people up. Ok, thats your thing, fine. Wows many novels are like James Patterson books... just there to make money. They have no value outside of that. If you want to base a game off of merchandise, fine. Yes. So has an incredible amount of merchandise because they know people will buy it, thus blizzard makes mega bucks. Does that make the game better? No. Again I'm not going to argue this point. If you enjoy playing wow, thats great. Were gamers, we enjoy what we do. I prefer RPing in my games, not senselessly killing other people. Its just our styles of play.

I guess Im usually the one being ganked, I run tanky classes, so it's usually a stale mate till 1-2 more enemies come to push me off, unfortunate I seldom get support in hot join matches so yeah, a lot of dying XD Started rolling a roamer style class for pvp, which is still fun, but I like my tanky/healers more. Loli-chan, while there is no "dedicated" healing class all of the classes are actually pretty good at decent healing support...barring the thief maybe, better ressing then actual healing. I'm always someone to run a healing class, so I've got a Healing Guardian, and Healing Warrior, on my account, warriors iffy, he cant keep people alive forever but he gets some decent burst heals with shouts, and can chain heal burst areas. Guard doesn't get many huge heals, but there constant, my guard clocks a constant 200 - 500 for anyone on the point, he's more heavily reliant on blocks and protection to negate damage, but staff heals for 2k and 3k with both its skills, and Line of warding is the best skill ever XD If your looking for a more traditional healing the Elementalist can do wonders, they got huge heals before, and now have that 25% boost for outgoing heals, plus if you realty wanted to push it another 10% from monk rune.
