Fan-Fiction vs. Original Web Fiction

For you writers out there, which do you prefer to do? Me, I've always preferred to writing my own original fiction, rather than fan-based fiction based on another's work. It's actually not a moral thing at all, rather in that I just feel like it doesn't really lend well with my style. I'm generally detailed in the technicalities, especially when speaking with firearms. I also love weaponizing everyday objects that many wouldn't immediately think would be a viable weapon. Because I'm very weapons and combat-heavy, while also heavy in blurring cultural boundaries, natural dialogue, complex plot lines, and not to mention the time I spend on all my writing, it just doesn't work well with writing fan fictions. But, what about you, other writers? Do you prefer writing fan-fictions or original fiction?
