Promoting Yourself- Right or Wrong?

Decided to post this here on two reasons. One, because I would like some opinions on this topic. And two.... well. I'll save that for later.
Recently I have made a page on Facebook mainly for my cosplays. I thought it woukd.be kinda good for me to break out of my shell and see what others think of my skills. I do not believe that I am a pro at cosplay, but simply one who does it for fun and because I enjoy that character. After making this page, I decided to do a little advertising for it on my Instagram and various other sites I am on. No one has yet to respond to the advertisement by liking my page. However, I have received a few messages advising me to stop/give up. Or not advertise myself.
For starters, I will never stop cosplaying till the day I draw my last breath. It is a wonderful hobby of mine. And also, is it so wrong to promote yourself? I mean, sure friends can send out invitations. But wouldn't it mean something more if the actual person where out there advertising themselves? It showes the audience that this person truly loves what they do and wants to get the word out.
So my fellow Otakus, what are your opinions? Also any advice you give will also be welcomed. And if you wish, here is my page on Facebook I made. Check it out and let me know what you think.
This is reason number two I decided to place this topic in this forum. :3

You dont have to listen to anyone who tells you to stop advertising your thing. But if nobody really cares about it then theres nothing you can do :3 . Other than keep promoting and all.
I dont know if you are rich or not. you could buy screentime on tv to post a commercial or something. But that would be kinda weird because people only advertise stuff they want to make money with. But rich people seldomly care about others opinions. Mainly because they can do almost everything with all their money...damn I'm always getting carried away...

Lol you're fine. And I'm not rich at all. I may be a pastry chef, but then again I am only paid hourly, not salary. I wish though. :3
Then again I don't think promoting my page on TV would be good. It would be interesting though. Otakus would all be like "Yeah, cosplay on TV!". But those who are not into anime are gonna be like "Wtf?"

Ouch, being told to stop and give up, must've stung. TBH I can't say that I'm surprised, Anime,Video Games(that aren't CoD,Halo or GTA)Cosplay etc. isn't exactly accepted in the mainstream society, so lack of responses and being told to quit is something I would've expected, nonetheless, you have alot more guts than me to be so open about your hobby, since I'm very closed about it. I think it's a great thing you're doing, by putting yourself out there. Don't let ppl tell you otherwise.

It sounds like a wonderful idea but I'm confused on the advertising part. Are you marketing your services for creating cosplay outfits or materials? Are you working torwards modeling cosplay outfits?
If it's just for exibition that's fine too. Could use a little more Anarchy Stocking, its super cute.

I'd treat this as the internet will be the internet and people will act like jerks, I wouldn't take it as a personal attack on what you do or how you look to be honest, it's comes with territory of doing anything online be it videos, pictures or gaming etc.
Instead i'd trust in close friends opinions for encouragement and constructive criticism, that's assuming you have someone who knows about cosplay and you're comfortable talking to about it.
